Create Route By Waypoint Name

For those of us who do some cruiser racing there is an inportant feature missing from OpenCPN: the ability to create a route using the names of buoys rather than their positions.
This would be a really useful feature, not just for racers though, also just to save having to scroll across pages, zoom out/in when you know the name of a waypoint you want to enter.
Entry could be by typing the name and maybe the system showing the names which match as it is entered character by character, or by scrolling down an alphabetical list.

Bob this is being discussed in another thread which I believe you created, which is a good approach!, where Canne has made some good suggestions and has made two Tracker "Feature Requests"
https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...es-240341.html

Canne wrote:

I suggest that you register in Tracker and VOTE! That would help move the request up to the "vetted list". There is no assurance that being on the vetted list assures implementation, but it has a better chance.

The other approach is to make a programming effort and submit a PR to OpenCPN, or enticing a programmer to do so.

Re: Feature Requests

Hi, and thanks to all concerned for this great tool!

I would like to change the Chart Downloader dialog in the following ways:
- one line per chart, as it was in 5.0.0
- columns for status (updated, old, etc), and scale (important for picking charts to download), NOAA chart number (or as appropriate for other chart sources)

- sort on each column header, so it's easy to find all charts at 1:50,000, etc.

I know that chart number, scale, and title are all searchable metavalues e.g. at https://www.charts.noaa.gov/ChartCat...dAtlantic.html

The windows version has one line per chart, so too the other versions in all likelihood. The ones selected after you have updated the catalog need updating, after they are updated, all charts are current. There is also a descriptor which explains status ie "up to date" or "update available" with dates. There are no sort-able fields.

So update your catalog first!
It is not a high priority to provide sortable fields, but if you want to add this to tracker and get people to vote for it, you are welcome to do so.

Thanks for your reply. I want to clear up a few things. The windows has one line per chart, but wrapped onto two lines, making it harder to read.
Here's a link to an image (embedding the image failed, for some reason):

I have updated my catalog. I'm simply saying that the values I'd like to see in the chart uploader matrix would be: Name, Status, Scale, Chart ID (e.g. NOAA chart number). The latter two values are not in the chart uploader matrix currently.

I understand sorting is not a high priority vs other, more needed features. Still a good idea if the dialog ever gets revised again.

Re: Feature Requests

It’s hard to make everyone happy. Many people use smallish displays and don’t like wide tables.

With regard to sorting, that may turn out to be harder than it would seem. The system is designed to work not only with NOAA charts but many other countries as well. Almost no country supplies the same data as NOAA. We decided to make the downloader compatible with as many (all?) free hydrographic suppliers as possible. I even managed to convince a few hydrographic offices to make minor changes so their file format could work with OpenCPN.

But I seriously doubt we can convince all countries to be exactly like NOAA.

Re: Feature Requests

Not to insult bureaucrat, but it is hard to make them agree to a decent system and easy to work with, (no matter the country).
Have a good day.

Re: Feature Requests

Is it possible to add multitouch gesture support on raspberry pi? Two finger zoom and long touch for right mouse click work in chromium on rpi but not in OpenCPN. Here is some information how it is done in chromium. Might be some code could be reused in OpenCPN? https://www.chromium.org/developers/...ure-recognizer

Thanks

Or may be enable touch events in wxWidgets?
Is OpenCPN calling wxWindow::EnableTouchEvents() anywhere?

See also:

Thanks,

Re: Feature Requests

Re: Feature Requests

May I suggest 2 things to integrated in the next version of OpenCpn:-
1 Integrate Otidalplan of Mike Rositer into the program
2 Integrate RTZassist also.
These two could need amelioration in the future but they should be part of your program.
Thanks so much for comprehension.
Best Regards

its an option menu for charts
