As we're here on the OpenCPN board, the question was asked in this context, meaning free maps to be used in OpenCPN of these areas. Do you have a more details how to integrate those maps into OpenCPN?

It would be really cool, if we could use the Navionics web-offering.

You can forward the question to this company directly. Not affiliated to them.

Eitherway check the open source data https://map.openseamap.org/
at the area you are interested in. You can download them in the format you want. Hope it fits your needs.

If you want free maps look for SASplanet or CM93 v2.

Can anyone comment on SASplanet? Haven't heard of it before.

Have s look at inavx. I've used it in USA, but it looks like you can download charts for med as well.

As far as I remember, iNavX was using the navionics charts, they just had to add a surcharge to them. It's a long way from free.

Only because the NOAA chart data is available for free and many developers just charge very little for it doesn't mean there'll be free charts for European waters. Expect to pay $30 to $90 per year, depending on where you cruise and how big the area is.

Re: Free maps for the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas?

Just to clarify a point, I am asking for "free charts" so I can have a backup onboard. The chartplotter setup already has quite costly hardware & software on it.

May be it was just bad luck, but on two boats the Raymarine chartplotter quit working at the worst times. New models too.

My mistake. Inavx app is free and the US NOAA charts are free to download and can be used offline. You'll have to cough up for other charts on Inavx.
