Garmin GPSMap 752 to Open CPN

Hi,
So I have followed all the Open CPN manual directions, you tube tutorials, random internet hints and tips and still cant get the Garmin GPS Map 752xs to send a signal to the GPS input on Open CPN. I can confirm the GPS is sending location data no problem as it is linking with Navionics on my phone. I'm using a DELL Inspiron and it can see the IP address of the GPS but Open CPN wont accept any combination of inputs into the settings menu.
Any ideas?
Starting to get a bit frustrated...

Re: Garmin GPSMap 752 to Open CPN

We need a little more information.

What kind of PC?
What OS?

What version of OpenCPN?
Is the GPS receiver connected to the PC by cable, or BT, or wifi, or what?

Thanks
Dave

Re: Garmin GPSMap 752 to Open CPN

Thanks Dave,
Open CPN version 5.0.0 on a DELL Inspiron 7391 2in1 running Windows 10 Home. GPS is connecting via Wifi. I have tried IP addresses found using IPconfig and Network Ports from 0 to 10110 using UDP, TCP and serial as per the manual all to no avail.

Re: Garmin GPSMap 752 to Open CPN

Steve...
Quick googling here, and I think I understand the setup. Correct me if wrong, please.

1. The Garmin device sets up a wifi access point.
2. The PC should connect to that access point using the configured name/password.
3. This gives the PC an ip address to use. I understand that you can see this ip address when connected correctly.
4. So, you should, in theory, be able to create a connection in OpenCPN using that ip address.

5. We do not know if the data from the GPS device is sent by UDP, TCP, or multicast. This is pretty important. I assume you have tried UDP and TCP?

How on all that so far?

Spot on Dave,
I have tried every combination of IP and port using TCP, UDP, and GPSD using the Garmin protocol (GRMN Host) both on and off.

Did you find the trick to connect OpenCPN to your Garmin? I've been trying to do the same with no luck.
Thanks ahead.
