If anyone has some examples of NMEA2000 messages sent as NMEA0183 data, please share some with me (by PM?).

From what you posted, I think you have not found the QK input data coming into OpenCPN. I think your COM16 and COM3 are the USB connected GPS and AIS devices. Neither of these messages have anything to do with Wind or Water data. Both have to do with GPS data, i.e. the messages start with "GP". One is from the USB GPS and the other is from, I assume, a GPS built in or connected to, the AIS.

https://www.quark-elec.com/doc/QK-A034_manual.pdf
Page 1. "WiFi and USB additionally output of NMEA 2000 network PGNs (in both 0183 sentences and PCDIN format)"
If manual is correct, should have 0183 format messages in addition to PCDIN. The water and wind data is listed as supported in section 3.6.2 starting on page 9.

Grippy,
I would suggest going back to your configuration tool and looking at the data output from the QK to get familiar with what messages are being output by the QK. Just pay attention to the 4 letters following the dollar sign ($) at the line beginning. For Water/Wind data you should see at least some of these: VHW, DBT, DPT, MWV (see the right most column in table of section 3.6.2 of PDF linked above).
Then go back to OpenCPN. You should have at least 3 COM connections, USB GPS, USB AIS, and USB QK. I would suggest enabling only one at a time to check that you are getting good data on each, individually. Then if they individually work, try enabling all 3 at the same time.

This NMEA 2000 raw format is not supported by OpenCPN nor any of the plugins.
If you are truly having problems with the QK input, then try filtering/blacklisting the PCDIN output using your configuration tool. I would expect any unknown messages to be ignored by OpenCPN. But it would be good practice to filter out unused messages going to OpenCPN. See Section 4.4.1 on page 15 in the PDF I linked above. You would want to put "PCDIN" in the box labeled "NMEA OUT:".

Good Luck,

Re: Garmin (N2K) via QK A034 to OPN CPN

Another potential issue that occurs to me is the potential for message duplication/collision. I'm not sure what OpenCPN would do in this case. For example, you could have a GPS on USB 1, an AIS (with another GPS) on USB 2, or even a second/third GPS coming over the N2K network along with wind/water data via QK on USB 3. The potential exists for the same message to be on multiple OpenCPN inputs. This shouldn't be allowed. Any duplicated messages need to be filtered so that a specific message only comes across one input.

Re: Garmin (N2K) via QK A034 to OPN CPN

FYI, the first two letters of the five characters following the '$" are a source identifier. "GP" is supposed to stand for GPS. If you are certain COM16 is your QK device, then can you confirm if you have a GPS on your N2K network? My wind instrument uses the two characters WI for the source identity.
https://web.archive.org/web/20220902...0Mnemonics.pdf

The three characters following the source identifier is the message identity.

Re: Garmin (N2K) via QK A034 to OPN CPN

Okay, that was far more than I thought I was copy&paste...
Lets see if it helps...

I will continue to check back here every hour or so...
cheers, and thanks in advance.

Re: Garmin (N2K) via QK A034 to OPN CPN

My GPS should not be in the N2K network. It is a stand alone GPS puck, connected through usb to the laptop.
I am looking now to find the com port it is on, but as yet can not identify....

Open the windows device manager, and expand the com ports. Then unplug the GPS. Whatever port disappears when you unplug it, is the GPS com port.

Re: Garmin (N2K) via QK A034 to OPN CPN

Is there a com8 setup in OCPN? I would disable everything else, and only work with com8 until it works, then reenable the others.
