Wait for NMEA-OneNet.
I'm sure it will come one day.

Got interested in what a Panadapter is, found this which might be useful for Linux users:

Some Videos about use of RTL-SDR with SSB Radio
RTL-SDR can be used as a cheap panadapter. A panadapter is device that allows you to visually see the RF spectrum and waterfall being received by the ham radio. There are multiple (expensive) commercial panadapters available, but combined with a PC or laptop, the RTL-SDR will work just as well
In this video YouTube user akdude47 shows a tutorial on setting up the RTL-SDR as a panadapter for a Yaesu FT-857. The setup involves connecting the IF output of the radio to the RTL-SDR, and putting in some settings into HDSDR.

Re: Getting AIS Details

I believe with weatherfax_pi and rtlsdr_pi we need GNU Radio - Is that right Sean?
Has anyone installed GNU on a Windows OS?

Here's some links for GNU Radio with Windows
WindowsInstall - GNU Radio - gnuradio.org

WindowsInstall - GNU Radio - gnuradio.org
Building on Windows with Native Tools
GNU Radio, as of version 3.7, will not build with Visual Studio 2010. Hence, it is recommended to build GNU Radio with MinGW (which has the advantage of being free): Installing GNU Radio with MinGW.
However it has been shown possible to compile GNU Radio 3.6 on Windows using native tools (see Voltronics: GNU Radio Windows Build Guide and https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/d.../msg00284.html)

Re: Getting AIS Details

I am having difficulty with the new gnu radio on linux, but a new program called aisdecoder has some promise. It is much simpler and uses little processor by comparison. I posted windows binaries for someone to test, but I do not know if they work. Please see the rtlsdr_pi thread.
