Re: gps via bluetooth or cable

Absolutely. If its an android phone there are several apps to provide GPS phone data to the PC via Bluetooth. I guess there are some for iphones as well, but i dont have one!
However, in my experience with andriod, they are not that stable, and I personally would not rely on one for primary navigation. Cool for playing with though! ☺

Re: gps via bluetooth or cable

For the iPhone you might use gps2ip, see app store.
However it is not good idea for a long voyage because the iPhone needs to be recharged always.

Yes, I have bought (I guess it was about $5) and tested it, it works OK. But be carefull, it runs in the background and drains battery of the iPhone.

Re: GPS via Bluetooth or Cable

Please go to CapsicumDreams | iPhone apps - GPS 2 IP: Turn your iPhone into an NMEA gps receiver
and follow carefully the instructions.

Re: GPS via Bluetooth or Cable

I do not know what you have done.
There are several ways to use gps2ip.
You may even use it with gpsd.
Otherwise use TCP or UDP.
