Yes, changing the setting does fix the problem. I don't know the other impacts of not using Accelerated Graphics.

I view this as good news; it means I can use 5.0

The link was bad. Is this what you are referring to?

Show/Hide Eye

You can toggle the visibility of active objects by clicking the “eye” to the left of the object name on each line. For waypoints the eye is replaced by the icon shown on the chart for the waypoint. A red X across the “eye” (or waypoint icon) means that the object is invisible.

I think this statement should be ok, and the problem it may be related to display listing with opengl that TDan figured out.

Yes, Thanks.

I seem to get lost whenever I try to drill down in the manual.

You can’t use mbtiles with OpenGL turned off. Some plugins (radar) require OpenGL.

Well, these restrictions don't affect me.

But should I do something to get this on a "Fix List?"

Re: Help / FAQ

Just loaded opencpn for the first time. Win7 PC. Got charts loaded and GPS working ok, but charts will only display if I hover the mouse over the chart bars at the bottom of the screen. Move the mouse and the chart reverts to the red outlines only. Boat location etc stays good. It is as if I am not selecting the chart, but I cant find how to select ot if that is needed? Any help appreciated.

Try clicking on one of the chart bars.

Also, try zooming in using the + key. O only shows charts when the chart scale is compatible with the zoom scale. It will not usually show detailed large scale charts when zoomed way out to small scales.

Sorry, I should have said that I need to click on one of the bars to select the chart and that works ok, but as soon as I move the mouse off the bar I revert to the chart outlines instead of the full chart dosplay

Thanks for replying. I have already tried max to min zoom. The charts that display when I hover the mouse on the bar are at good levels of zoom and if they stayed showing when I move the mouse they would be fine. So close to working after finally getting the GPS puck talking to opencpn. It is a strange problem as if the chart selection isnt working properly, yet I can have multiple chart bars up and the mouse click will move me between charts. Just wpnt stay on the screen once the mouse moved.
Thanks to those that have responded so far. Unit is on an elderly friends 40ft yacht that he livesaboard. Yacht is concrete construction. Interesting boat.

Another question in case anyone has done it already. He has a Navionics chart set on a standstd Nabionics memory card from his previous chart plotter. Is there any simple way to get those charts into opencpn? The normal public charts should be fine anyway but I think the Navionics ones may have some extra detail.

Re: Help / FAQ

What kind of charts are you trying to see, RNCs or ENCs? Do you have OpenGL enabled?

Short answer: No, no way.

Would require some "Navionics plug-in" and such thing is not on any horizon...
Plus Navionics is Garmin today with the doubt what will happen to their chart formats in the future. Making it even less attractive to investigate such a plug-in.

I thought that it might be tough, but worth asking in case anyone had tackled it already. Thanks for the response

Charts are the ones loaded via the opencpn internal links. I need to check the file types. I seem to remember seeing .kap files names but didn't pay s lot of attention as the charts display fine until I move the mouse. I found notes on this forum about opengl while researching the problem and will check all that when I get down to the boat next. Thanks.
