Re: Help / FAQ

In portable mode the data is stored in the same location as the application. Just out of curiosity, what prevents you to synchronize the files from the normal location?

Re: Help / FAQ

You copy it anywhere and start with -p command line switch.
Using filesystem level synchronization done like you plan to is pretty likely to break your toys as soon as you start OpenCPN on more than one system at the same time.

Re: Help / FAQ

OpenCPN keeps crashing...

I have a ras pi5, mccarthur hat, daisy hat, and usb gps.

OpenCPN 5.8.4 (as part of open plotter 4) was running fine until I added data for the AIS and GPS to signal K. Now it crashes immediately when I open it from the desktop. I can open it via sudo in a terminal and it appears to work fine. there are some odd things in the data log, I will attache.

I am unable to delete opencpn or move the opencpn data file under /lib/opencpn (it says i do not have permission). I have tried to disable openGL, plugins for both opencpn and signal K, and nothing seems to help.

Network connections are not working in Windows 10

I have OpenCPN installed on 2 different Win10 PC and several Android devices on my boat. I have a Cerbo GX running ServerK and one of the PCs running Server K receiving data via a Yacht Devices ethernet gateway.

Yes all of this is way overkill but that's how my environment evolved. OpenCPN running on my Android phone works just fine. It can see NMEA2000 data on the various sources.

I can access the admin interfaces on all 3 data sources via their respective browser interfaces without issue from each of the PCs and I can run their native data viewers with valid data being displayed.

But the PC versions of OpenCPN seem to be blocked on any network connections.

I have verified that Windows firewall is disabled. I have NordVPN in the environment and it is also disabled.

There is obviously something blocking the connections but I can't figure out what is missing.

hutchel..
I'm not sure I'm following your description but first of all:
All devices need to be on the same local network i.e. Gateway.

Re: OpenGL problems...

I've been using OpenCPN to make routes for building mbTiles for the last few weeks. Today, when I started OpenCPN up, my previously displayed mbTiles wouldn't display.

Checking my Options, I find that my "Use OpenGL" is unchecked, & greyed out.

So I shut down OpenCPN, open my OpenCPN.ini file, & sure enough:
OpenGL=0 and
DisableOpenGL=1

But resetting those to 1 & 0 respectively & saving the INI file doesn't seem to work. OpenCPN starts up, the mbTiles still do NOT appear, & my Use OpenGL is again unchecked & greyed out (& the entries in my INI file have been reset back to 0 & 1).

Does anyone know what's going on, & how I can repair/correct it?
Does my OpenGL need repair? (How would it have gotten trashed?)
If so, Is there some sort of repair tool available?

It was all working fine just a few days ago.

System is updated Win11 on an HP laptop with 16GB &
AMD Ryzen 7 4700U & Radeon Graphics
running latest OpenCPN v5.8.4-0+627.1637c28

TIA!

What does the log file say when starting OCPN?

Sorry, I should have thought of that...

Working from the end of the logfile back, I find:

Code:
18:02:29.363 MESSAGE ocpn_frame.cpp:839 **** Connect stuff
18:02:29.367 MESSAGE OCPNPlatform.cpp:823 Starting OpenGL test...
18:02:29.404 MESSAGE OCPNPlatform.cpp:745 GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION not found
18:02:29.405 MESSAGE OCPNPlatform.cpp:829 OpenGL test complete.
18:02:29.405 MESSAGE OCPNPlatform.cpp:831 BuildGLCaps fails.
18:02:29.420 MESSAGE chcanv.cpp:2398 Metrics:  m_display_size_mm: 381     g_Platform->getDisplaySize():  1920:1080
What does this mean, & what can I do about it?

The logfile seems to log several OpenCPN sessions. Higher up in my logfile everything seems fine:

Code:
15:57:42.445 MESSAGE ocpn_frame.cpp:4739 OnInitTimer...3

Not sure why it repeated its OpenGL test, but it succeeds both times, with lots of Framebuffer OK lines after that.

Thanks!

The draw back from 5.9.1-1623 to 5.9.0-1624; was that a small error or else?

P_Dub, if this was aimed at me, I don't understand it.

Re: Help / FAQ

I'm still not understanding, P_Dub, & I'm certainly not offended, just confused.

AFAIK, I didn't "draw" anything back from "5.9.1-1623 to 5.9.0-1624". I don't see either of those numbers in anything I posted, which is why I was questioning if your post was even aimed at me.

And I still don't have a solution for either repairing my OpenGL (if it's broken) or correcting whatever OpenCPN is looking for when it reports:
GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION not found

Re: Help / FAQ

Hi

I am running OpenCPN on a Mac OS - use charts for Norway bought from o-charts. Everything works nicely. Have after some trail and error understood how to adjust the view.

One challenge: how do I increase the font of "underwater rocks"?

Re: Help / FAQ

The size of such chart objects are controlled by the slider "Chart object scale factor" at Tools->Options->User
