I just download the dmg file and open it. CPN then opens with the world chart. Indeed no installer, like the windows version.

Chris,

other than in Windows a *.dmg file is not the application but an image file which includes an application. These image files are like a zipped harddrive in other words. That means you have to open the received or downloaded *.dmg file and then you have to drag the included application file to the Applications folder of your Mac computer. Starting the application out of an opened *.dmg file does not work.

But don't be bothered, most people new to Mac don't know this.

Ah yes, I know. The dmg file makes a folder with a CPN icon therein. I tried if it would make any difference if I drag that icon into my application folder. It then wants to replace the older version (happily I made a copy of the 4.0) - and then still opens without replacing with the older settings.
So it is now back to version 4.0 - don't want to set all the connections to AIS and GPS, layers and usericons (yes, these were in another folder and changing that works), buoy appearances etc. again.

Well, that's life, I guess.

If you refer to the vector palette (see: Vector Palette | Official OpenCPN Homepage ) then this was not a plugin but some files. see text.
If you want to use it, you have to put those files in the new OpenCPN
directory:
/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/SharedSupport/s57data

Peter

Re: Help / FAQ

Ivanm...
No, it needs the new APIs introduced in O4.2 and can't be backported to O4.0.

Question NEWBIE: Non-standard NMEA / Cruzpro Instruments

Sorry if it has been converted before, but I find the amount of page here overwhelming, and impossible to read it all through.

I read part of the doc of OpenCPN and noticed that it only recognises certain NMEA0183 sentences. I was wondering if there is a function/pluging to teach it additional ones and use them.

More specific:
I'm currently refitting my 30' foot sailboat, and I would like to replace some of the old engine gauges with cruzpro instruments because they can, besides visualise the sensor data, also output a NMEA0183 sentense to communicate the sensor information on the NMEA0183 datanetwork.
Fi. the TL55 tank gauge would output a $IIXDR sentense with the gallons/liters remaining.
Basically I would like to capture this data in OpenCPN and display this along with other 'exotic engine' NMEA data (engine temp, rpm, hours, etc ...) on some sort of dashboard ....

Sincerely,
Jurgen

Re: Help / FAQ

Jurgen...
These sentences can be added to the dashboard plugin (a bit of programming needed, it's not just some sort of configuration), but first we need to know what they are and how they look from some sort of a documentation...

I'll contact cruzpro for the documentation and I'll let you know as soon as I get something.
Thank you for being so kind to help me out

Re: Help / FAQ

I have a problem on O4.2 and on O 4 as well my gps fix get lost about every 10 seconds or so for a second or two and then back to normal and so on all the time. The gps receiver how ever does not lose signal. I ran O on another computer with the same gps receiver with no problem. Can it be a hardware problem on my computer
