Re: Help / FAQ

Sure,

take the manual and study the communication settings.
OpenCPN has its build-in multiplexer and allows various input and output sources covering formats and interfaces like Serial(COM) or Ethernet and protocols like GPSD, UDP, TCP.
Plus filtering inputs and output by NMEA sentences to streamline your data throughput.
Priorities for input sources are implemented as well. For a back-up GPS for example.

Got a stand alone AIS transponder which send AIS & GPS sentences to my OpenCPN on W10 PC via USB and would like to know if by creating another Input connection feed additional NMEA sentences (AKA navigation instrument like wind speed, depth...etc) Opencpn be able to read and integrate all MNEA into a single feed for a) its own display and; b) UDP output connection for sharing with another device ?

Thanks
This is what OpenCPN does. You may want to read the manual, especially https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ng:connections

Yacht Spirare..
Since OpenCPN has an excellent inbound multiplexer the answer to all questions are "Yes".

Re: Help / FAQ

NEW PROBLEM:

I've downloaded Open Cpn 4.4.8 onto 2 computers. My home based one is fine but my "sea-going one" (didn't it have to be the important one...) its not.

So - Lenovo 64bit Win 10. The menu bar is so small its virtually unreadable. The program doesn't read my CM93 ver 2 charts from my chart directory on the hard drive but does pick them up from an external stick. There are many grey areas (which I know are covered by charts because I can see the charts outlines through the grey) - putting the cursor in the grey area and clicking to enlarge gets the chart back but other grey areas appear. There are also black areas: clicking on them causes the program to crash and a mini window comes up asking me to send a report. I try, but the report fails to send every time.

It may well be that my computer is on its way out - its done several thousand miles in a salty atmosphere...

Any suggestions gratefully received, Tony

Re: Help / FAQ

Tony, my Lenovo Ultrabook has a high-res screen, so the menu-bar is also tiny (& objects like Waypoints are very difficult to see). Not sure what to do about that. It does read my CM93v2, but I put them close to my root (C:\CM93-2011\), not in Documents. It also wouldn't display the CM93 correctly until I switched to OpenGL (Options, Display, Advanced, at the bottom). Good luck!

Re: Help / FAQ

Nah - Didn't work or change a thing. I had originally had cm 93 on the desktop, then when it didn't want to play, changed it to Documents: its now, like yours, in C: still no joy!

I've been with Open CPN since its very earliest days and have loved seeing its improvements but I wish they'd stopped tweaking it at about 3.Something which took me across the atlantic both ways several times, Seychelles to Australia, Caribbean down to Brazil then across to Cape Town (via Tristan Da Cunha) without a hitch!! Mind you, Win 10 doesn't help either...bring back XP!! Cheers, Tony

Jon, et al...

Regarding size of objects on ultra-hi-res screen: Have you tried boosting the scale sliders in Options->User Interface?

Thanks

Re: Help / FAQ

Ah! I'd played with it a bit, but very little happens when you hit [Apply]. But actually clicking [OK] & all sorts of good things happen. Thanks, Dave!

Actually, it's the Enable Scaled Graphics Interface check-box that enlarges the toolbar (& the text). I can't get the User Interface slider to do anything that I notice. The Chart Objects slider grows my waypoints. I'm happy!

While I've got you, is there any way to change the color of tracks? The yellow that seems to be the default is too close to the color of land for CM93 charts. I'd much prefer the maroon of yesteryear. I can change individual tracks, but I can't find the switch to change the default track color. I'd have expected it on the UI tab, but it's not...

Yes there is a way!
Options->Ships->Own Ship->Tracks->Highlight Colour
Press the button and pick your color!
The button changes both the Highlight Tracks color(if active) and the track color.

Tony, did you turn on the Enable Scaled Graphics Interface check-box? I think that's the master, so other stuff may not happen until that's checked.

Also, did you turn on OpenGL? (Options, Display, Advanced, at the bottom)

Re: Help / FAQ

Jon - Ha! It was Enable Scaled graphics!! Thanks.

Dave - Dunno - how do I find out? Nah - belay my last - I should be able to google that one! I'll get back to you.

So - I've got the program looking like it should with decent sized menu bar and ship icon but still suffering from greyed out areas (annoying, but liveable-with). CM 93 is readable but only from my stick (D drive), not from the computer where I've placed the data variously in Documents, then Desktop, now C drive. It always used to work and I've checked the installation. Maybe the next thing is to copy the c drive stick to, say, Desktop and see if that copy can be read?.

Dave - Screen resolution is 1600 x 900 (recommended)
