Help Please! Instruments crash my ocpn

Just got back to my boat from an extended time away and plugged in the laptop. When I try to run ocpn it appears that my instruments connection causes it to crash every time I try to connect. Actually one time in the close to 100 times maybe worked, but I can't replicate. The instruments are on COM7. This setup worked perfectly fine before my extended absense.

And when instruments connect, they very briefly appear on dashboard before ocpn freezes. I then have to physically remove the connection and restart the program. Only way I can use ocpn is to disable that comm7 either physically or unchecking the enable box in the ocpn connection page.

Instruments work flawlessly on my other nav software on same computer using the same connection. Why?

I am making some progress. In advanced display options, I had “Use Accelerated Graphics (OpenGL)” checked. By unchecking, my laptop no longer freezes when instruments are turned on and connected.

But new issue. When instruments are on, own ship icon is replaced with very strange and large shape. A pic is worth 1000 words. First pic with instruments off. 2nd with them on. Any guess what my issue is?
