Hot linking windows named cruising guides in linux

Not sure if the title is correct but I know what I mean, let me explain further.
I have downloaded KAP files for Indonesia (Thanks Terry and all others involved) that include a cruising guide and the instructions are as follows
Quote:
Previously revised to include the guide “101 Anchorages Within the Indonesian Archipelago”. Use the Route Manager In OpenCPN to select these anchorages. If you download the guide in .pdf format, put it under the C:/ drive in your computer, then for each of the 101 anchorages if you right click on the anchorage symbol and select ‘Properties’ a window will appear with a link “Indonesia – 101 Anchorage’s Description”. Click on this link and it will open in your internet browser (no need to be online) the appropriate page in the guide for that anchorage.
problem being is I am using Linux Mint so that aint going to work.

Is there any relatively easy way a modification can be made so as to get that guide working as advertised on Linux?

Thanks in advance

Yes, there is. What it is exactly is impossible to say without having a look at the GPX file with those 101 anchorage waypoints.

Not convinced it is gpx file.
There are point's at anchorages, click on properties for info and there is a link to click on taking you to a page on the PDF.

The waypoints are in a GPX file.

Open it find the waypoints (marks) of interest and examine the hyperlink. You can do a regular expression search and replace to correct the paths. Whether the internal names within the PDF work in Linux or not is another matter.

Look in the OCPN manual for info on these features of Os route and mark manager.

You have at some stage imported a gpx file called "IndonesianAnchoragesV20.gpx", that created all the anchorage points, including the links.

In Linux you have to do this:
1 Put the file "Indonesia - 101 Anchorages.pdf" where it suits you. As an example here in /home/simi/indonesia.
2 In the gpx file the links looks like this
Quote:
<link href="file:/C:/Indonesia - 101 Anchorages.pdf#page=10">
3 Open the gpx file in a text editor (do a backup first!!). Use the search and replace function.
Search for all cases of
Quote:
file:/C:
and replace them with
Quote:
file:///home/simi/indonesia
4 Save the file and import it into OpenCPN with the Route&Marks Manager

Tests I done indicates that links to individual pages in pdf documents works fine on Linux(Kubuntu 18.04, Firefox 63.0).

Good Luck!

Thanks for that explanation Thomas, I'll give that a go later today.

Re: Hot linking windows named cruising guides in linux

Ok, so I did that and replaced all as directed.
Made sure my backup gpx file was not in my opencpn files and did a full scan and rebuild.
Turned opencpn off and back on again.

When I hover over the link in the anchorage it still shows file:/c (see pic) but when searching the gpx file the word file is nowhere to be found.

Suggestions?

Re: Hot linking windows named cruising guides in linux

Delete the existing waypoints and import your newly edited GPX file. These are not charts, so nothing like "scan and rebuild" applies to it. And of course, read the manual, in this case at least https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...e_mark_manager

Can you right click on the link and then click edit to show exactly what you have as the link?

Then you are missing the "file:" part of the URL

Edit: to confirm the correct file string. Create a new waypoint and add a link to it, click the local file button, search for the file you want. Once you have created and tested a link like that. Do the search and replace thing to make the GPX file match.
