How to use a X-Box controller with OpenCPN on Raspbery Pi

Having got tired of fiddling with a tiny wireless keyboard to run OpenCPN from the helm station, I just spent a week figuring out how to use a game controller instead.

Given the amount of effort it took, I figured I would save everyone else the same painful learning curve by writing up the procedure.

Thanks for sharing, I think I will try this and see how it compares to my usable but "fiddly" small bluetooth keyboard.
