Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

Thanks, yachtman. As I understand it you turn on tracks, then export your user data as a GPX file. You have to turn off Quickdraw Contour Map recording or you won't get any track data. You have to delete some extraneous information from the GPX file so you can feed the data to the survey_pi. Is that right?

Mike
Thank you, that was the reason!

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

I have had a short play today,

i wonder if it is possible to make the colour of the dot or soundings change according to the depth, which would give an almost chart like display.

attached what i did with google fusion tables in the past., where red is less than 2 mtr and blue greater than 3

I have beeen out sounding another interesting patch in the river and around the boat. will attach a file if anybody wants to have a play ..

I have tracks on all the time, but not aware if they can be turned off.
dont use quick draw while collecting data, also have sounding repetition rate set to one sec.
for down loadinf on the echomap 75sv the process is...

from home screen user data/manage data/data transfer/file type choose gpx/
save to card/addnewfile/ choose a new name/let it do its stuff.

turn off remove card.

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

v3.2 now on GitHub:

https://github.com/Rasbats/survey_pi/releases/tag/v3.2

Still very much a work in progress but some comments have been addressed:

1. Delete sounding right click works through one or two points.

Still only works for the closest point. Not sure how it could select two points.

2. Does not apply to spotsoundings "use variable depthcolours" or is this feature not implemented?

Not yet implemented for the symbols. Only for the text.

3. Font color does not change.

Text now changes colour for variable depth.

4. Switching to the "Profile" tab results in a CPN error.

Needs further testing.

5. None of the "Boat size, Sensor position" amendments

Only waterline offset of the sensor now implemented.

6. Auto start of the new survey from the distance of the last soundings does not work.

Removed.

7. In the title of the new Survey does not understand the name in Cyrillic. Causes CPN Error

Translations still need submitting to Crowdin.

8. When the "Calculate tide" is off, the correction is still applied. Until you enter "0"

Calculate tide has been removed. Single correction can be made to all soundings and applied to the display but not saved.

New method of adding tide is under construction. This will include a manual correction for fairly constant factors such as atmospheric pressure during the survey etc.

9. So it is not clear why the "+" and "-" buttons do not work.

"+" not implemented. "-" should work.

10. The "Properties" button does not display Survey properties.

Now fixed.

11. The "Zoom to" button does not display the entire Survey area on the screen but only the start of the recording.

TODO. Needs some calculations and scale adjusting.

12. In the Survey window, recording statistics are not updated in real time.

TODO

13. Tide values in the table are always 0.

If you make an Edited Soundings table the tide values will appear.

14. It should be possible to hide the Survey window.

Can now be minimised.

15. There must be a working keel offset correction.

See #5

16. Two depths should be recorded raw from the sonar sensor and with the correction of the water level.

Going forward the intention is to have raw sounding tables and edited soundings in a separate table.

TODO. Sometimes you do not see any sounding in the grid. You need to select another survey and go back to the one you want. Then the soundings will appear.

Off sailing for a couple of weeks!!!

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

So Mike's suggestion to use Garmin Homeport software and export as gpx is not needed to get the lat/long and depth data?

The more direct way to save data to sd card explained below is easier?

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

Rasbats

Firstly thanks for all the effort put in!

using 3.2 with the soundings converted to csv and used in the previous version (installed without removing the previous version)

1 coloured depth numbers show , red to 2 mtr orange thereafter. no depth above 3.7. in my soundings file

2 but the settings screen, off set and the other check boxes screen is no longer offered.

at completion of load the the plugin freezes and cpn crashes. on restart the file is available.

3 profile doesnt crash my machine , or show anything.

4 Any chance of the sounding colour being user configurable?

as I would find

0-2 red
2.1-2.5 yellow
2.6-3.0 green
above 3 blue

most useful, in a river sounding situation.

Many Thanks. Have a great sail!

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

hi

possible bug / restriction

on a csv import

4254 soundings on the csv spread sheet gets reduced to 1239 soundings.
7376 soundings......................................... ..................1124.....
And a suggestion

from a river soundings perspective it is probably more important the sounding's position marker colour changes according to depth rather than the actual displayed number, due to the displacement of the number from position varies presumably with respect to orientation etc

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

I've attached a data file you can experiment with. It was created on my Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 54cv by exporting my user data to a memory card in GPX format. All I was after was the track data but I got all my waypoints and routes as well. I'll be studying the unit to see if there is a way to save just track files in GPX format.

The Garmin adds depth and water temperature to latitude and longitude in track points. Can the plugin read those track files and use the position and depth information? That would sure be an easy way to import survey data.

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

I downloaded V3.2 and am trying to open a VDR file I recorded, without success. I am able to open depth2.txt (from bcn, 16-Oct-2015) quite happily.
Could someone try and open the attached file and see why it won't open for me?
I'm running Windows 10.

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

Andrew ...

Your file is fine. Dashboard shows the depth. The only problem is that the survey plugin does not (yet) read the 'DPT' NMEA sentence. TODO. Thanks for the post.

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

Thanks Mike.
I did a 'Find and Replace' of DPT with DBT and it worked fine. I've done quite a lot of sounding in unsurveyed, generally less than 10 m, areas using format conversion utilities and other mapping programs (mainly OziExplorer). This plugin will save a lot of work. Well done.

Re: Hydrographic Survey Plugin

fgd3 ...

The track data in your gpx does not have a time stamp. Without this the plugin cannot use the data.

With my Garmin GPSMap 4010 the ACTIVE LOG track points have time stamps and the depth data.

The ACTIVE LOG clears and starts again with a new route. To use this the user data needs saving before starting a new route. Does the Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 54cv record an ACTIVE LOG. If it does could you post a sample of the GPX? Interesting to see if the format is the same as that from the GPSMap.

Thanks for looking at the file. I'll try again. I think it's a Garmin thing that time stamps are removed from saved tracks. I noticed that happened with saved tracks on my GPS72 as well. I used a saved track because I was trying to find a way to save only the track without all the routes and waypoints. That doesn't seem to be possible with the 54cv. Next time I'll try to write the active log to the memory card in GPX format.
