Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

Having trouble with imgkap. I downloaded the zip file from here.

https://github.com/nohal/imgkap/releases

I download, unzip to folder C:/imgkap/ which makes a new imgkap folder.

Then I try to run the .exe but get a complaint " VCOMP120.DLL" is missing.

If this is the problem where do I get it, where do I stick it?

Many thanks.

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

Thanks for link.

Downloaded, installed, rebooted.

Downloaded zip, extracted, ran .exe.

A command window flashes and the then the run stops with not errors. Never opens.

I've confirmed Im on a 64 bit machine and downloaded the 64 bit imgkap file.

I've also rung sfc/runnow with no errors.

imgkap is a command line utility, clicking on it with mouse runs it, but obviously does "nothing" and does not "open".

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

nohal,

Thanks for help. Making progress. But got stuck here. I'm guessing I'm exceeding some parameter????

Done for the night, I'll need to come back to it in a day or 2 when I have some more time.

C:\imgkap\to do green>imgkap img_1991r.png 61.33333333 -44.83333333 59.33333333 -42.16666667
ERROR - size of image is not correct
width = 2676px LON-degree = 2.666667
height = 3490px LAT-degree = 2.000000
ERROR - imgkap ((null)) return 2

C:\imgkap\to do green>

The latitudes and longitudes you used as parameters seem to be nonsense when compared with the geometry of the image. But we do not see the image so impossible to say if that is realy the case.

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

These are small scale charts. It’s roughly 2° by 2° of SE Greenland.

I converted to decimal equivalents, from the sample I saw that seemed to be what it wanted.

It was a cleaned up version of this. Rotated and straightened.

What does a "cleaned up version" of this mean exactly? Please post what you used as input (scaled down if must be, but with READABLE coordinates if contained on the picture).
Looking briefly at the photo, the distortion is enormous so if all you did was rotate it 90 degrees and expect it to be usable I would probably say you are expecting imagekap to be able to cause a miracle.
Unfortunately it does not cause miracles, it converts images to kaps if the input makes some sense...

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

I don’t have that image available here now. I rotated and straightened. I understand the distortion issue perfectly. The charts are not for precise navigation, they are for orientation and planning. No miracles needed.

The coordinates are:
61:20N 44:50W
59:20N 42:10W

What makes you say they make no sense?

Please post what you used, without seeing that there is nothing to discuss. That the input is 33% off in one direction compared to the other makes me believe the input parameters you used make no sense with the image you used. But we need to see that image.

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

It’s not on this iPhone and I don’t have the computer with me.

What I did not say, which might be disturbing you, is that I cropped the pic to those coordinates. So none of the white space margins you are seeing in the image are in the image I used.

The below image is not the exact image I used but close. Hope this helps.

But what odds? The program is not decoding info from the image. It could be a pic of my Wife and it should still map it to those coordinates. No?

I'm afraid it is not that simple to disturb me. No it does not help, post the real thing, please.

It could be a picture of your, sure pretty, wife. It would still need to have the correct aspect ratio corresponding to the coordinates you used as calibration points though.

Re: Imgkap - kap File Converter Tool

Sorry, that answer totally lost me. Sure if I put in a bad coordinates the image would not map correctly but how does Imgkap check that?

Those are the correct coordinates for the SE coast of Greenland.

West is denoted with a minus sign?
North by default is assumed positive?

Is there some limitation to the aspect ratio imgkap can produce, must be roughly rectangular or match a computer screen aspect ratio?

My hunch is there is some size limit to the image and I have exceeded it.

There is no size limit. I accidentally happen to have the NGA 38040 in a better resolution (= bigger size) than the picture you tried to calibrate so know it is a normal mercator chart and can be calibrated by imgkap when you use correct parameters.
