Improving vectorcharts sector lights display

I'm moving a discussion in "OpenCPN General" to this new thread.
It started with this post https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3258098 by "harbourmaster" then "bcn" and "cagney" contributed as well.

Answer to "harbourmaster's" post https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3275837

------
The features you outline would be good in an ideal world.
I restricted myself to a minimum starting point. More a proof of concept to see how it works, and then take it from there.

There are real world restrictions. For example to display all sectors, for all lights, extended, certainly comes with a computation cost that would slow down the system.
More realistic would be all sectors from all lights where the nominal range reaches the current display, but even that includes a lot of computation.

The main restriction is of course that someone has to program all this.

I regard this as an essential feature for OpenCPN as night navigation, in earlier mentioned waters, is not safe as it is now.

Thomas..
I can agree this would sometimes be a valuable feature. I also copy the assumption a "all sectors view" would cost power.

For my needs a right click toggle option for each light to "view the extended sectors" would do as well. Not to be saved to config but valid "this" session only.
