Now that you all have gotten me into this, I discovered that my Pixel 3A phone can see just about every GPS constellation in the sky.

I would be surprised if your laptop has a GPS chip.
Most laptops get their locations from wifi, which would be pretty useless offshore.

What model laptop is it?

I bought a GPS puck BU-353S4 and it works fine on my MacBook and Raspberry Pi4

As already noted...
My Panasonic Toughbook has an excellent GPS (true GPS, no wifi/cell needed), which works well with OPENCPN.
