Re: install OpenCPN on Debian8

erdos...
You can't just blindly follow the Ubuntu instructions here, on Debian you must pretend that you are using some version of Ubuntu (trusty in this case).
Also note that installing OpenCPN 4.0 on Jessie needs you to get the wxwidgets-2.8 libraries from Sid. If you are going to install the 4.1 beta, this is not needed.
FWIW, here is how the APT configuration looks on my Jessie system:
Code:
nohal@knut:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nohal-opencpn-jessie.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nohal/opencpn/ubuntu trusty main

Re: install OpenCPN on Debian8

I achieved success on banana pi, installing everything from the repository by starting with bananaian wheezy and following their upgrade procedure to jessie.

Code:
sed -i 's/wheezy/jessie/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
shutdown -r now
Then you just need to add the repositories:

edit /etc/apt/sources.list:
Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu trusty main
deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian sid main
now you can
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install opencpn
Then remove
Code:
deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian sid main

Re: install OpenCPN on Debian8

Hi all,
I'm new to OpenCPN, but long time Debian user, and part of DebianGIS.
Anyone interested in having OCPN as a proper Debian package?
And: is there a mailing list where to discuss these issues in more detail?
Thanks.

Pcav...
You can jump directly at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=538067
For starters I would like some clarification about what is wrong with the (current) source tarballs used to build https://launchpad.net/~nohal/+archiv...ncpn/+packages from Debian's point of view and how to submit the package for review once we fix them.

Thanks

Pavel

Re: install OpenCPN on Debian8

If I understand correctly from a quick scan of the ticket, it seems that Debian requires to upgrade to wxwidget 3, am I right?
Thanks.

Re: install OpenCPN on Debian8

pcav...
Not exactly, Jessie contains wxWidgets 3.0 (only), mentions of any wx2.8/3.0 "problems" in the ticket are now irrelevant as OpenCPN 4.2 targets wx3.0 by default.

Thanks. I'll discuss about this in the Debian GIS mailing list. Are you subscribed?
It would be useful if you could participate.
