Re: Mac port missing for AIS650

Sorry, thought we were talking mac. Also should have mentioned that I mostly use MacENC. Just got sucked into the thread because the USB driver is the hugely frustrating weak link, since I also depend on the AIS unit to supply GPS data.

Talking macOS in the thread. Got surprised about your description of the issues that were very Windows alike.

Re: Mac port missing for AIS650

I manually entered the port "/dev/cu.usbmodem1411" and OpenCPN allowed me to creat a data connection line, but nothing happened.

When I connect MacENC and then start proAIS2, the port shows up as "in use", but this is not happening with OpenCPN.

All a bit frustrating.

I was hoping to use OpenCPN when I sail from Sydney to Melbourne so I can get a feel for it, but will keep the computer turned off for much of the time now.

I mainly wanted openCPN because I want to use it to build the polars for my boat, but it looks like even if I got this connection to work, the AIS650 only transmits the AIS & GPS data and none of the wind data.

Well bugger me, it works now

I looked for the log and once I found it I thought I would remove the port I typed in "/dev/.cu.usbmodem1411" and then added it again after closing down OpenCPN. This time after entering the port, suddenly the map moved around and showed a little red boat

Now I can try it out...
