Make graphs of opencpn data on windows

Just in case anyone hasn't been following the voice logbook thread..
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2832993

It's actually not that hard to set up a system to save all the data going into Opencpn to a database and make pretty charts,

Below is just some random sample data getting sent from signalk on a rasp pi.

So briefly...
All on a win10 laptop.
NMEA0183 goes to opencpn, opencpn sends it out to a UDP port, node-red reads the NMEA from the UDP port and strips out the number you want, node-red sends it to influxDB, chronograf makes the graph, it's web based and pretty easy to configure pretty plots. Website says influx/chronograf are experimental on windows but they seemed to install and run OK.

Of course us Rasp Pi/Openplotter people don't need to jump through these little hoops but for you poor lot stuck with just nmea without signalk this might be , as they say over in blighty, a right result!!

Thinking about it, that could be a very handy plug in for someone to write, probably pretty simple, influxDB seems to do make life easy by creating what's needed as new data fields come in.

Isn't this already done by https://github.com/tkurki/signalk-to-influxdb ? I see little value in OpenCPN reimplement something that already exists. And the effort this requires would probably be better spent making SignalK server work for a normal user, even on Windows.

Simple on a Rasp Pi/openplotter but for a lot of people who just run a windows laptop with some data going in nme0183 over sedial/usb it might be an easy way to create a database and plots . Though running node-red to write to influxdb isn't really a big deal and probably a lot easier than getting signalk set up on windows.

Did you try that? What are the actual problems that need to be addressed in that? I am asking seriously, this is a major showstopper for SignalK adoption.

Never tried it TBH, looks like it will run under java which I've know little about. RPi is pretty much plug and play so must be the most common way so far. Most of the google hits are about installing on a Pi and a brief search didn't come up of anything re windows.

Anyway, I think a relatively easy way to plot data would be via node-red, install then paste in a flow which might be of interest to quite a few people.

Edit - found something >

As you consider a Pi with OpenPlotter a plug and play solution, maybe you do, but in reality this is what makes SignalK not adoptable for the waste majority of it's target audience.
Not talking about the fact that 99% of SignalK happens around the node.js server, which is a different thing than what you found...
