The GRIB display is synchronized to the route properties row selection, so in the large picture it shows the finish time, and in the small inset - the 12 Nov just after midnight UT.

If the GPX file with waypoints is imported as a Layer (e.g. a Temporary Layer), then the names can be toggled on and off, as well as the points themselves. It is also easy to delete the whole set without disturbing other items.

@Thomas:

It would be nice if the script generated the timestamp as part of the filename... then one can easily manage a number of such sets as layers to maintain a history

....could you make an European equivalent?
There are some European buoys included already. Can you point me to some euro-buoy-data? It's very convenient to parse noaa's ndbc data, and I don't fancy screen-scraping a lot of official met sites.

@Piotr
I have included a time stamp. Have you noticed that there is a nice
Quote:
24-hour plot - Wind Speed, Wind Gust and Atmospheric Pressure Combined plot of Wind Speed, Gust, and Air Pressure
on the web page for each buoy?

The ruby script and a generated gpx data file i attached below. The script requires "wget" for downloading the data. Win download "Wget for Windows" here.
Import the gpx file as a (temporary) layer and then the names can be switched on/off, as Piotr already has pointed out.

This script is very similar to my earlier "Ship reports" gpx script and one day I'll probably combine them to show all available current wx reports.

Re: Marine Weather Forecasting

When offshore (read: at sea, out of Internet access) in European waters, my main source of mid-term weather information is the RTTY broadcast on SSB (long, medium and shortwave) from German Weather Service in Offenbach/Pinneberg near Hamburg. It can be received by a number of programs (I know only Windows), such as JVComm32, MeteoScan, SeaTTY...

Since a long time I was nursing an idea to make a plugin for this, but Thomas' example triggered me to make a simple prototype in Python today. I attach a sample receive transcript for the North Sea, as well as a chart of their coverage.

It is still a prototype, because it does not handle any error recovery on garbled messages, which sometimes are correct just in the parts that are needed... I think a real solution must come as plugin.

Just a preview.

Piotr

PS. I could use more space in the Description Field again, maybe at the expense of Icons... ?
