Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

I have created an MBTiles file that includes Ibiza and Formentera with a scale of between z9 and z18 and weighs just over 240 mb.

I like the way it works. I'm very happy with how the layers are showing up. Nice.

I think z18 is a scale that's right enough. Not more zoom is needed, in my opinion.

Is there any way to stop the overzoom message from showing in mbtiles files?

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

The underlying chart from the Spanish IHM for Port Sant Antoni (ES504781) has a scale of 1:4000.
Corresponds to a ZL18 (starting with ZL1).

From your own samples, the XYZ one works, the TMS one has inverted Y-axis (Which actually is the only difference between XYZ and TMS and can trivially be fixed. But not trivially detected.).
I don't use or know SAS.

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

Has anyone succeeded in creating charts through the QMetaTiles plugin in Quantum GIS?

The generated tiles will perfectly open in Mapbox, FME and other geotools, but not in OpenCPN. The log 'sees' the files and adds the chart, but doesn't show up on the map and no bars in the status bar.

Does openCPN really accepts the mbtiles format, or is it somehow (non-perfectly) backwards engineered?

Can you post a sample?

Baksteen...

Still waiting for a sample tileset from the QMetaTiles plugin in Quantum GIS.

This kind of edge-case compatibility question is exactly the reason we are alpha-testing MBTiles support far in advance of production release to OCPN.

Thanks
Dave

One advantage is that you can use mbtiles map data in browser applications on your boat's network: for example Signal K server can serve web maps off the same files that you use in OpenCPN with the help of https://github.com/SignalK/charts-plugin. A web client can retrieve a list of available maps, their zoom levels and extents from a Signal K endpoint and then use your favorite web mapping library to render the maps.

Another advantage is that publicly available, free for personal use maps can be scraped and packaged as a single .mbtiles file, making moving maps around as easy as any single file.

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

How to add a more detailed layer (18, 19) so that it is displayed in the CPN?

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

I conducted several tests
but could not achieve the mapping of more detailed layers (18-19)
It seems that from the scale 2.5 to 10x the layer (17) is displayed judging by the resolution of the picture on the screenshots.
I would like to be able to see more detailed images of layers 18 and 19. The CPN zoom allows them to be displayed.

Not true.

Other priorities ahead of O5 just now.

Please be patient.

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

Henri who programs SailGribWR which supports Noaa and OpenStreet Maps has an interesting link to this website. I don't know if it is using mbtiles, but it looks like it is. in the Download "Marine Charts" pdf here

In that PDF he states:
Quote:
Free atlases are offered in the MBTiles format and can be read by all compatible apps or software. Atlases purchased in the app are in the SGTiles format similar to the MBTiles format but encrypted. These atlases can only be read by SailGrib WR.
To make sure you will always have planning charts for the entire Globe, free atlases can be downloaded.

Mapbox Maps API

With the Mapbox Maps API, you can request Mapbox tilesets programmatically. You can retrieve tiles, retrieve features from vector tiles, and retrieve TileJSON metadata.

Also new improved Android Gestures

Geospock maps trillions of data points

Perhaps there will be a mapbox Marine someday?

"We believe data needs to be live and constantly updating. We first started working with open data communities, like OpenAddresses and OpenStreetMap, using these data sets as signal to help us update our maps. Today, our maps are made from the live anonymous sensor data we are collecting from hundreds of millions of users, open data communities, and data from commercial partners."

OpenCPN are such a live community.

I wrote to them about support for opensource programs (They come from that background and say they are supportive)
Perhaps I am stating the obvious, but I knew nothing about this until now.

Re: MBTiles for OpenCPN

Hi, Ive been doing a small amount of testing with a mbtile chart made for inland river system in ireland, the actual chart data appears fine but the program while not quite crashing is doing strange things, issue appears to happen when moving to a separate charts such as cm93 etc, or outside the bounds of the mbtile chart.

Regards

Tom
