McMurdo Smartfind S20 NMEA trace?

Hi,

Does anyone have a VDR trace for either a test or full activation from a McMurdo Smartfind S20 AIS SART beacon?

Smartfind S20

Re: McMurdo Smartfind S20 NMEA trace?

See if there is an SAR file in opencpn file thingie. In the Nmea directory. These can be played by VDR plugin. When we were testing for McMurdo PLB we used these files. The other resources to search are this forum try "Mcmurdo PLB" or my posts several years ago, or you can search closed tracker items, because I think the files we attached there. Sorry dont have time to look. When you find the files post the link or files here.

I think it would be helpful to build a VDR nmea library for test of many features, ais, sart, mcmurdoplb, racing tactics, file thingie has a lot of them, but they need to be labeled better.

Any SART will look like this in OCPN: SART | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Re: McMurdo Smartfind S20 NMEA trace?

Many thanks to you both. Rick I'm a bit short of time today but hopefully I'll try those places tomorrow. I'll post what I find and tell you how I get on.

Hakan, I have no doubt that OpenCpn downstairs on our boat will handle AIS SARTs correctly, in fact I've already seen it do so in anger, it's the expensive commercial product up in the cockpit I want to test...

Cheers,

Aedan

Ahaaa--- Yes you better find a way to test that. We can't expect commercial gadgets being as accurate as OCPN, can we.

Just for the books: SART manufacturers are testing with OCPN at their offices...

Paul_Dy (Digital Yacht) sent test files -

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1519704

Paul from Digital Yacht sent the test files via G-drive to Dave (PM)
so we did not get them.

I this was about the time Dave started working on it.

Re: McMurdo Smartfind S20 NMEA trace?

Here is an early test string Marco used:

Test strings:
!AIVDM,1,1,,A,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*45
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*46
!AIVDM,1,1,,A,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*45
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*46
!AIVDM,1,1,,A,>>M46pi<59B04=@UHD,2*20
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,>>M46pi<59B04=@UHD,2*23
!AIVDM,1,1,,A,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*45
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,1>M46pvP1TP=fr0MhC027?wN0<00,0*46
(no delay... not really according to spec, but should be no problem)

Comment by PjotrC (pjotrc) - Monday, 09 December 2013, 12:26 GMT-5 Edit Delete The conversion of AIVDM into AIVDO for a selected MMSI target (as done by NMEA Router) is a good candidate for implementing directly in OCPN.

This would often be useful to charter crews and sailing guests, who prefer to use their own OCPN laptops on board of AIS equipped boats. Not always the direct connection to on-board system is easy.

Same for pilots, who may have AIS receiver dongles, but no pilot-plugs for some reason.

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f13/raymarine-e80-ais-650-mcmurdo-ais-plb-mob-125035.html#post1526320

We did a full live test of the device in the middle of the Caribbean away from any other shipping. The C125 alarmed quickly with the same generic sound as all the other general alarms. I had to actively acknowledge to clear the alarm. The target then unfortunately looked just like any other ship - the usual triangle shape.

More Unique Icon Needed. (bdcat proposal is good!)
It seems a shame that they can program a more unique icon to this particular alert given its importance.

Different Audible Alert Needed
Would also be nice to have a slightly different audible alert to distinguish it from other alerts. When we use the auto pilot to sail to wind we can often be in situations where the wind shift alert goes off far too regularly. This numbs the person off duty to the alarm.

Comment by Marco (Mbjh9acu) - Friday, 24 October 2014, 05:48 GMT-5 Edit Delete Entering / changing MMSI is a bit weird.
Scenario:
Empty list, 'new'. Enter MMSI 123456789, click OK. Item appears in the list.
Double click on it. Change MMSI to 987654321, click OK. Nothing changes.
Activate another window (in this case the browser). Item gets updated.

Appears on XP. Ubuntu seems to work fine.
Then, click 'cancel'. Re-open toolbox, item added is in the list.

FS#1245 - AIS-SART tests generates an emergency alarm.

FS#1245 : AIS-SART tests generates an emergency alarm.
This got fixed.

Did not find any testing files here.

Re: McMurdo Smartfind S20 NMEA trace?

And finally try
Opencpn Beta File Thingie rguser, rgpass

Go to the Nmea Directory.
and you will find 3 possible test files that start with
ais-sart ....

If you find any others please upload them here with an extension of .doc or .pdf.

Thanks.

Thanks.
I thought I had done this ages ago but I see I didn't, apologies. Two vdr compatible files are attached, one for a McMurdo SART test message and one for a Weatherdock full activation. Both have .doc appended to allow posting.

On another issue, I see that test and real SART activations automatically deactivate 18 minutes after the last successful SART reception, as per the OpenCPN documentation. This seems a rather short time for something that could be life-critical and yet 18 minutes seems like a very definite time. Is there a reason for this time being chosen?

Thanks,

Aedan
