METEO gribs no longer readable

We have been using METEO as a source of GRIB files for the Mediterranean, and the GRIB file plug-in has been able to read them. Yesterday the plug-in was unable to read a file I had just downloaded, and then several more yesterday and today. They tell me they made a change in their GRIB files last week. Are there multiple standards for GRIB files? (I checked and was able to read a file downloaded via Ugrib.) Should I just seek a different source for Med GRIBs?

Re: METEO gribs no longer readable

Larry,
where do you get your grib data from exactly?
Possibly your source has changed from grib1 to grib2 format?
Grib2 format is not supported by the grib plugin of OpenCPN.
For the Med you may get grib data from NOAA via zyGrib or try OpenSkiron - Home
Both works with the OpenCPN grib plugin.

Gerhard:
Thank you for the information. METEO consulting is a British site that has been providing us GRIBs based on European Forecast Center, my preferred source for Med forecasts. Will look elsewhere EFC-based GRIBs. Does anyone have an alternative source? Meanwhile, we are using the handy Ugrib for NOAA-derived GRIBs of Med.
Fair winds,
Larry

Re: METEO gribs no longer readable

Larry,
indeed Meteo Consulting uses a strange Grib format not recognized by the Grib plugin of OpenCPN. Maybe it is Grib2. I have tested:
Shipping Forecast Map : METEO CONSULT GRIB files

As mentioned above already use OpenSkiron - Home or get zyGrib from zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization

The Norwegian site yr.no provides grib files for European waters. Link to info site: Information about the free data - Yr

Direct download site: Værdata i GRIB-format - yr.no

The info site say that you must understand the tems for using the files, and these terms is written in Norwegian language. This relates to publishing any service using the grib and XML forecast files where you will have to state that the weather forecast source is yr.no . For use on a chart plotter the usage is completely free.

An old thread but nevertheless...
...try http:/openskiron.org for either Skiron model gribs of the Med at medium resolution or openWRF gribs at 12 and 4km resolutions for the Med.
