Modifying AIS Icon

Hi All,
Hopefully a quick question with an easy answer:

I am using opencpn 5.8.2 under Ubuntu 20.04.

I understand from the docs how to change my ownship icon by putting an icon into .opencpn/UserIcons.

However, I cannot seem to find the filenames to put here for other icons in the system. Specifically, I'd like to change the AIS target icon from the triangle to something else.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The numerous AIS "icons" are rendered from scratch in real time by OpenCPN. This turns out to be the only practical way to manage the various display resolutions and physical display sizes found, at acceptable image quality.

Does this mean that it is not possible at all to change the size of the AIS targets apart from scaling under user options?



On my screen the AIS triangular boat symbols are very tiny but they come with with an oversized balloon stretching forward from the ship symbol. All of it are affected when scaling the boat symbols in user interface menu.


Is it possible to scale up the AIS target but make the ballon smaller?

What system are you using Win?
I can actually see something similar on a Win7

Using W10 and a 32" TV screen.


Works great, but as can be seen the AIS Target icons are very tiny and sometimes hard to see but comes with a larger heading 'ball' up front.

try these options first.

you say that you're using a 32" TV, so in the first screenshot measure in mm the width of the screen and correct the data in the box.

in the second screen check that those data are not too big or your desired ones.

in the third slide the highlighted bar to adjust the size of the vessels.

but I guess that most important is to give the correct size of the screen.
