My Ship Icon Orientation Heading/COG

On 3.2, the orientation my ship icon displays on OpenCPN seems to be more associated with the COG than Heading.

Is this a change?

So, while at anchor, the icon in OpenCPN is facing the COG as we swing around our anchor, not the heading we are actually faced.

Sometimes I notice it swaps back and forth between the 2 directions (COG and HDG) rapidly, changing the orientation on the screen by 180 degrees....

I am pretty sure with 3.02 the orientation of the boat was always set to the Heading, at least when at anchor.

Anyone know about this?

Re: My Ship Icon Orientation Heading/COG

kiltym....

May we see a screenshot of the NMEA debug Window?

The ship's heading is determined from $xxHDG or $xxHDT messages on the NMEA bus, if present. If not present, ships head is derived from GPS sentence, e.g.$GPRMC

Thanks
Dave

Re: My Ship Icon Orientation Heading/COG

Dave,

Here is a screen shot showing the boat facing the COG (002), but the heading value is about 180 degrees different (177). As stated, sometimes the ship will do 180 while watching the screen, and return back to COG direction.

Also attached a VDR with some data that behaved this way when watching the screen.

Hopefully this helps. There are HDG sentences in the file.

Let me know if you need more data from me.
