names of locations not appearing on chart

Hello and Merry Christmas Eve to all of you!
I am new to this forum and to OpenCPN. I managed to have OpenCPN working on my computer with my position induced from the AIS device. I see where I am and I see AIS targets.
But the chart does not show any names of islands and locations, even though I have clicked National Text on Chart in the Vector Chart Display

Don't know why it is off by default. But click on the "A" symbol in the symbol bar.

the "A+" button from the toolbar or the key "T" will toggle texts on/off
