phiggins,

Did you get a chance to test my work on this process? I managed to create raster kap files for the entire world autonomously by using the cm93 cells to generate kap charts from raster imagery.

This can be done with little user interaction. I think it's better than ge2kap which requires much user input by comparison.

Once compressed, the charts occupies 1.5gb of disk space with coverage comparable to cm93. You must remove the watermark to achieve this level of compression.

Re: Navionics Charts

Would it be possible to use your 'work in progress' to generate .KJAP files from the site Kystinfo ??

Re: Navionics Charts

boat_alexandra, No I haven't tried it. CM93 are notoriously inaccurate in a lot of places.

petter5, GE2KAP does create charts from Kystoinfo.

Re: Navionics Charts

And boat_alexandra, what do you mean GE2KAP requires a lot of user input?

To create a chart from Google Earth, Open CPN or Sasplanet. you position them to the place you want a chart and press "Create Chart"

To create a chart along a Path or for a polygon, you create the path or polygon, select it in GE2KAP and press "Create Chart"

To create a chart from a calibrated image you select the image and press "Create chart"

Yeah that's a lot of user input.

There is lots of interest in this area.

Sean, This sounds pretty awesome. I knew it was coming.. but I still think so.

Re: Navionics Charts

Version GE2V25.0.0.0 is available that has an option to quilt charts directly from the SasPlanet cache including one layer. Also, it will automatically set the depth units to Meters if either the Map or the layer is Navionics.
There are also some other fixes for some other problems see the Changelog.txt.
Get it from the Downloads page of my website Sample

Hi,

I am very interested to test your great work.
Could you share your "1,5GB charts" file?
I have checked both links but as I understood these are the scripts to generate charts.

Re: Navionics Charts

Bumping an old thread. A couple of years have passed.

Is there now a way to use Navionics card data in OpenCPN?

FYI: I see that Fugawi has now folded, no longer in business.

I have some Navonics CF format chart sets (circa 2010) we inherited from the PO. They obviously work on the Raymarine plotter, but I would like to do some work on my backup computer. That is dual booted and has both Fugawi (WinXP) and OpenCPN in its own (unix variant) partition.

Any way I can work through Fugawi or elsewise to use these existing charts on either Fugawi or OpenCPN?

Re: Navionics Charts

No, no way.

This would require a "Navionics"-plug-in for OpenCPN.
Based on some contract with them.
Which is not impossible, but not in the pipeline as of today.

Re: Navionics Charts

OK and thanks. Just thought I’d check.

I appreciate the short concise and definiative answer.

Re: Navionics Charts

You can use mbtiles, or mbtiles converted to kap. You can make mbtiles from any tile based imagery. So yes it is possible, lots of people doing it, but the vector charts are rasterized.
