Re: New Grib Presentation

Lars,

You can install zyGrib zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization and obtain grib files through the program.

Re: New Grib Presentation

I know i can install other programs, and that is what i am doing. I would like to be able to copy information from the "write and send GRIB request mail" as shown below.

I have written before, that i believe that it would help if the wind barbs are closer when you zoom. I have seen i in the climate plugin, where the wind roses get closer as you zoom. When you are cruising in a narrow sound, and are getting closer to the bigger sea, it would be nice to know what is out there.

Lars

What happens if you click on the "send" button ?
If gmail is set as the main mail system on your PC that should work
which OS do you use ?

JP...
Giving the user a chance to copy the text to the clipboard is probably not a bad idea - if you just replace the now wxStaticText m_MailImage with a read-only wxTextCtrl, it is also very easy to do.

I don't tried gMail but I don't see why it would not work with XP as a standard Windows API is used . Normally when clicking "send" gMail should open with a mail ready to be sent ?

I second the motion of having the wind barbs getting closer as you zoom.

Don't they already do this? At least to the extent that they are defined in the grib file. So if you zoom in really far they are spaced wider.

Or do you want a variable spacing? So when zoomed out, they are generally farther apart, but closer zoomed in? I am not actually sure what you guys are asking for.

I can say though that the option for range for wind barbs is probably basically useless and could be replaced with a setting for spacing.

Hi Sean,

I believe what they are asking for is variable spacing, such that the spacing set is proportional to the scale, so the wind barbs appear to be the same distance apart at any scale. I myself thought that would be better when zooming in close, so that I did not have to zoom out again to see the barbs.

So to be clear.. you are asking to interpolate on the grib gridded wind data for wind barbs? Currently it only renders barbs at actual data points in the file. If zoomed out to where this grid is too tight, then barbs start to get skipped.

I feel this might spark another debate like the one dealing with interpolation over time, except now in space, so maybe an option is required here as well.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Sean...
zyGrib does it this way since forever and everybody seems happy. By default it draws the barbs as dense as it feels to with interpolated values unless you tell it to draw just the ones on the grid points.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Jean Pierre, my Thunderbird email no longer sends Saildocs requests, do you know how I can fix this? Thanks. Was working. Have Thunderbird email setup in Linux, but have never tested it here. Always works under Windows however.

Also would be nice to be able to copy and paste instructions into an email as a backup.

Huge difference in Windows, much much easier!
The required request is shortened with ... this is not helpful either. Also cannot copy or see the email address for saildocs, had to look it up with google.

Re: New Grib Presentation

- Copy to clipboard is done
- the saildocs address is in the config file . Off course if necessary it could be displayed
?
- Are you sure thunderbird is declared as the "main" mail system on your PC ?
Have you a message in place of the mail text ? Could you have a look at your log ?
In which system it doesn't work no longer ?
Sorry for my poor English but I didn't understand well
