Re: New grib presentation

Jean Pierre, I meant to say, its perfectly ok with me, to have sean/grib_enhanced branch. That's cool. You may need to see how he does some of it, and Sean has succeeded in getting a large number of bugs out re gribs, the last compile worked fine.

Also, I just tried a compiled release grib-p2_pi.dll in the website download executable version of Opencpn and it works fine. Give it a try. I've taken to naming these plugins as follows:
NEW_GRIB (Ptizef) : grib-p<version>_pi.dll
Grib_Enhancement (Boat_Alexandra): grib-e<version>_pi.dll
In order to keep them straight in my plugins directory. I add a .doc at the end to comment the older ones out, otherwise I don't know which one to pick from the icon bar! (Is there some way to have an identifier?) That way I can go back to a previous one and check something.

Re Baikal:
Quote:
1. setting local time instead of UTC
2. settings for the wind speed (ms, kmh, kts) and pressure mBar, mmHg
3. color map for wind data -
4. downloading grib files optionally via email and once in OpenCPN.
5. Subscription options to automatically download files over a given time.
1. New one has it I believe.
2. New one has this I believe, but OpenCPN should be getting this in the Settings section someday (where it should be passed as an external global parameter).
3. Email is there and seems to work for me, email request setup is good with various options. (We can perhaps add more? Or customize via text file or something?) Direct download with saved URLS would be nice.

I am going to attach Jean Pierre's latest compiled, that I used. Give it a spin, and test all parts please. He's improved the email and other things.

Rick

..what I miss is a legend with the velocities of the wind/current/wave height etc. Maybe this is hard to implement?
jonasaberg How about using the cursor? Just put your cursor over the area in question and the window will show all values for that spot. Eventually you'll know intuitively. The data is directly accessible by placing the cursor. I know you haven't tried it, but maybe you should download and test it out. Then tell Jean Pierre what you think about a legend.. Its pretty good I think....

Re: New grib presentation

Jean Pierre I'm really new to git too, but it is easier for me because I am just fetching and pulling on the different branches. You and Sean would be setting up an area to work on code, seeing if it worked and then 'committing' those changes. Its a real teamwork kind of thing, maybe Pavel can give you and Sean some ideas and techniques about how to do it. I think it might be very powerful.

I am sure you know this site http://git-scm.com/

Use local time in one and utc in the other dll to keep 2 dll's apart.

Re: New grib presentation

Good idea. I'll try it, hopefully they will use the different settings in opencpn.ini.

Hi ,

I use only Windows ...
Vista at home and I use also a 10' device with XP for navigation

I have fetch back a copy of Sean's gri_enhancements
in branch GRIB_FROM_SEANDEPAGNIER to have a look at it's code that seams very different
We could merge but I don't see what could be the result ?
any idea

Re: New grib presentation

Some correction and improvement have been made

- m/s km/h and kts as speed unit
- mBa and mmHg as pressure unit
- fix crash with specific files
- prepare the possibility for translation
If somebody is interested to translate in is own language , just copy from the source the file 'language'.po ( example es.po for Spanish ) , complete it with translation and send it back to me .

Sources are available: https://github.com/Ptizef/OpenCPN/tree/NEW_GRIB
only use branch NEW_GRIB

Here attached :
grip_pi.dll (with .doc to be remove) to copy in OpenCPN/plugins/
opencpn-grib_pi.mo ((with .doc to be remove) to copy in
OpenCPN/share/locale/'language'/LC_MESSAGES/
this last file is a quick translation in French

Re: New grib presentation

I believe that there are several things from the Grib enhancement that we can use.
The Grib config window is very useful, because you as user can configure your display.
In the display control you can easily “tick” what you want to see (wind, current, temperature etc)

It could also be very useful to be able to show two different grib's at the same time. One with wind data and one with current data.

Re: New grib presentation

Hi,

I like this enhancement of GRIB plug in.

I try to change speed from km/h to kits but without a success. I can do all combination except kits. If I set it, click OK, and back again speed back to km/h.

Re: New grib presentation

Hello
NEW_GRIB works on Debian 7.0
downloaded from git
compiled and build locally

except for :

1- files *.grb.bz2 are not listed (*.grb ok)
2- no data shown in the panel

solution for 1
line 800 of grib.cpp
_T(""), wxT ( "Grib files (*.grb;*.grb.bz2| *.grb;*.grb.bz2"), wxFD_OPEN, wxDefaultPosition,

replaced by
_T(""), wxT ( "Grib files (*.grb;*.grb.bz2|*.grb;*.grb.bz2"), wxFD_OPEN, wxDefaultPosition,

(removed space after |)

for the second issue I don't know...

The main things:

1. rendering is much faster for opengl mode for maps
2. timeline interpolation between grib files
3. any display for any data time (you can do isobars for wind, or waves not just pressure, or you can do an overlay map for pressure or...)
