I will send another request with WIND and PRESS only to see what comes back.
Well...
I have unchecked in the Grib Plugin the parameters for Gusts and Waves.
This produced an request email that looked like this:
<send GFS:40N,36N,15E,24E|0.25,0.25|0,3,6..72|=
WIND,PRESS>

Once again, got back two emails.
One with the grib file for the defined area.
Another saying that:
<There was an error in the following command line:
WIND,PRESS
("WIND,PRESS" is not a valid command or document code).>

It seems that the weather parameters made available in the query definition box of the Grib plugin are of no interest to Saildocs. They just send the file they have...

There are errors in your request mail to saildocs.
To get the correct syntax write an email to: gribinfo@saildocs.com
without any other text.

The syntax was generated by the plugin! not by me.
So this is exactly what I am asking - what should I do to get the properly phrased email directly out of the plugin ...

Thanks - IS this GFS or one of the other models?
Sorry - tried the other models - same problem.
The Plugin floating bar does not have windows for wind gusts and waves, whatever I do.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Long time ago I had problems with "gmail" inserting it's own characters into the lines produced by OpenCPN. This led to that the mails were rejected by sailmail.
I solved my problems by using "thunderbird" to forward the mails instead of gmail.
So... check the lines O produces with what's actually in the mail you're sending.
I may not be this but it's worth checking.

If you manually copies the lines O produces and paste it into a mail, what happens then?

GFS, then into thunderbird, or just copy and paste the text from the box. Outgoing email looks like this, text encoding - unicode, text format - autodetect. >>

Re: New Grib Presentation

Once again:
First get the correct syntax from saildocs:
To get the correct syntax write an email to: gribinfo@saildocs.com
without any other text.

Then make your grib query with your email program and forget the plugin.
It has always been buggy.

Thanks to you and other forum members that pointed me to the syntax path.
I am using Outlook and somewhere between the plugin and the mail program the syntax gets confused.
Using correct syntax I have received full grib with the additional data.
However, now I have new problem...

Grib file that has only wind & pressure - shows properly on the map (c93).
If I try to open grib file that has also waves and gusts - the grib file hides the respective map area underneath grib data
Attached Files
File Type: pdf Chart with Grib data.pdf (384.7 KB, 42 views)

Re: New Grib Presentation

You have to play with the settings (for each param).
Make them transparent.
Read the manual:
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...s:grib_weather

I have sent the request, (and got an answer from my outlook program that email was delivered).
However - no answer came back from Zygrib.
I have tried it again after two days with different area (admittedly, both defined areas were in a neighbouring parts of the Med) and new code - similar negative result.
On the other hand, I easily got a grib file directly from Zygrib website and watched it on OpenCPN.
Thanks for any comment!
OK. I did solve the Zygrib issue.
It appears that the mail automatically generated by the Grib Plugin does not include the required subject line, i.e. the word <gribauto> as subject of the mail.
I do not know if this is an Outlook problem on my PC or bug of the plugin.
Anyway, once I have added the subject line to the mail, Zygrib sent to me a correct gribfile.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Is anyone aware of reanalysis gribs that OpenCPN/grib_pi can read? I'm trying to run routings using historical gribs from https://opengribs.org/en/gribs, but can't load the ECMWF ERA5 gribs because they are in .grib format. How are others doing this on Windows machines?

Here is a historical grib example: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-D...cswtcn_Ok0YVhy

Thanks much,
Dave

Re: New Grib Presentation

Yes, I have mentioned this before. Perhaps you should find out more and post the details in Tracker. I have old gribs that do not work.

Thanks, and will do. I'm just becoming familiar with OpenCPN, and am very impressed and appreciative with what you've all created!
