Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Here is link to download the graphics for OpenCPN icons - in Acrobat Reader format;

http://www.svrevelations.com/DOWNLOA...Icons v1.1.pdf

Also, a couple sample icons based on the above graphics - zipped with Winrar;

http://www.svrevelations.com/DOWNLOA...conSamples.rar

We are still fine tuning the graphics - shape, colour and size. I might have missed a couple of icons, so we are also checking this.

Your thoughts?

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Great work!

For my hiRes display the png samples are definitely too tiny.
On standard resolution and full HD (1920x1080) on a 18" display most probably ok.
Be aware that the "scale chart objects" option slider at userInterface will scale the pngs as well.

What about to make this a svg collection? In which format did you design?
I would participate to make this happen.
Background: this will be the format for the correct solution for the different UI resolution.

I used CorelDraw to design all the graphics - it supposedly have a SVG export ability - but it is absolute rubbish! When exporting to svg, the graphics (vector) are completely distorted, twisted and unrecognizable. I spend the past 8 hours reading up on the issues and tried various solutions - to no avail.

I am just about done with the design work in CorelDraw and I'm busy making minor adjustments and improvements - here is Version 1.2.
http://www.svrevelations.com/DOWNLOA...Icons v1.2.pdf

Then, I'm also waiting for Gene's feedback and a couple of icons I missed.

Coreldraw have attributes which other software seemingly does not have or support - I used quite a bit of this creating the icon graphics. For example, Coreldraw allows colours to be made transparent which are lost when importing the file into Inkscape. If you look at the PDF, you will see the transparency on some of the graphics with lights - eg; "Marks - Cardinal East Lighted", etc

It will really be helpful if somebody can find a way to export these graphics to svg as I struggling - it's a format I am not familiar with and I've tried both Freehand and Inkscape. But be mindful that graphics changes due the above issue as with Inkscape.

PM me your email address and I will be happy to email you the CorelDraw source file. Whilst we fine tune the graphics, you might find a way to export them to svg.

I also received an email from Dave saying that he is willing to build code to support svg icons.

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Received your CDR file and it imports fine into Inkscape 0.92
This is the latest version of Inkscape and imports CDR files directly.

You will need to import page by page of your 4 page document.
Next "ungroup" the resulting objects, as the complete import is presented as one single big object.

Now we will need to check icon by icon on correct import.
On the first page the MOB icon and the obstruction-shallow icons go wrong, the rest look pretty good at a first quick glance.
Most probably because of dithered colors. But no deal breaker at all.

On the second page the eddies are wrong, paths in svg are different.

Page 3 seems to be ok.

As do page 4.

The resulting svg icons can be edited like native Inkscape svg.

Pretty nice - should be ready tomorrow.

The zipped Inkscape pages attached. Strip the .pdf and unpack.

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Folks...

OK, here is where we are.

We have a large CorelDraw file containing all icons on one image.

What we need is each icon as a separate SVG file.

I find that the CorelDraw (.cdr) file will import into Inkscape(Windows) just fine.

So, what we need is an experienced Inkscape user to import the big file into Inkscape, split it up, and save each icon as a separate SVG file. It is mind-numbing work, but I see no way to automate it.

Any volunteers?

bcn...

We were typing at the same time.....

To be clear: We need each icon as a standalone .SVG file.

Will you send me your first result .SVG file, so that I may have a sample for OCPN core code validation?

Thanks
Dave

Dave...

attached triangle, square and diamond.
These are imported from a DIN A4 page - don't know if you can deal with this or which clean-up we would need to do in case.

Just to start.

The result is also what I managed to get, but some detail is missing - compare the transparent lights in the PDF link above with the svg files.

Somebody with expertise in Inkscape will have to add the detail again.

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Colors in the lights (the greens) are not ok, as the white point does not show up.
Yes some editing and a control icon by icon is required.
But all doable..

Missed that one - the white dot should be changed to black.
Gene will get back to me by tomorrow after which I will make the final adjustments in Coreldraw. I also added 2 additional icons since. I will email you the CorelDraw source file when done.

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Hubert...

I looked at diamond.svg.

We will need to adjust the "viewbox" down, otherwise I will be scaling against the entire A4 drawing size.

I experimented with File->Document Properties->Page->Custom size.

I suppose one way is to decide a viewbox size that will be just large enough to contain the largest icon in the set. Use this size for all icons exported. Center the icon in the box.

Alternatively, one could use "File->Document Properties->Page->Custom size->Resize to drawing or selection". That would not be ideal, since as I load and scale, everything would be the same size (e.g.triangle would be the same nominal size as lighthouse) Probably not what we want.

The SVGs are nice and small....

Re: New Standard Waypoint Icons For OpenCPN - Input Requested

Two reduced to icon size.

That's done via page properties, adjust to selection.

Will make one file per icon. Correct?

But this will happen tomorrow. If some body else wants to start tonight, just keep us informed about the icons done.
