Newbie - Help with OpenCpn install/fail to launch

Hi everyone,

I have recently downloaded the latest version of OpenCpn 2.5.0-2 and tried to install on Zorin 11.04.

The installation worked fine but when I launch nothing happens. I found the log file and this is what it showed:

Quote:

09:52:16 GMT: -------Starting opencpn-------
09:52:16 GMT: Version 2.5.0 Build 2011-07-26
09:52:16 GMT: MemoryStatus: mem_total: 2516 mb, mem_initial: 27 mb
09:52:16 GMT: SData_Locn is /usr/local/share/opencpn/
09:52:16 GMT: Creating new Config_File: /home/matt/.opencpn/opencpn.conf

09:52:16 GMT: Setting Ownship Lat/Lon 33.358, -79.282
09:52:16 GMT: Error: Impossible to get permissions for file '/home/matt/.opencpn/navobj.xml' (error 2: No such file or directory)
I tried playing with ownership and permission but nothing changed.

Any ideas? Like I said I am a newbie to this and I have only had linux for a few months.

TIA

Re: Newbie - Help with OpenCpn install/fail to launch

Strange error....navobj.xml should not be needed. It will be created on first shut down (IIRCC).

First delete /home/matt/.opencpn/opencpn.conf, and try to start opencpn.

If you still have the same message in the logfile..........
To get it started try
Code:
touch /home/matt/.opencpn/navobj.xml
This will create navobj.xml.
Start opencpn from the command line. What messages do you get?
To do this, find a command line and just write "opencpn". Press Enter (aka Return).
