NMEA crashing and closing OPENCPN

Hi

Wondering if anyone can help. Im trying to use an NMEA TCP feed to OPenCpN on my Windows ten machine. As soon as I get some NMEA data, OPENCpn crashes.
I have attached a snapshot of the NMEA debug file. Can anyone see anything wrong? Feed works perfectly to NavMonPC, but OpenCpn wont see any COM ports from Navmon. So I turn off NavmonPC and try to hook up via TCP and no luck. Open Cpn version 4.4

My first guess: A firewall is blocking something. Is the new Windows10 now smart enough to prevent incomming and unknown traffic?

I can't read the images very well, but the input messages color indicates that they are filtered and dropped or messages with errors.

You should look at the specific sentences in the nmea data stream to make sure they are properly formed. You could try turning off checksum too, but long term its best to fix the problem.

You could try sending it to NavMonPC then to OpenCPN via a virtual port.

Gerhard may be right about a firewall. Do you have windows defender on?

Thanks. I tried to send it via a Virtual port from NavmonPC. But OPenCPN cant find the COM Port. So I switched NavmonPC ( which showed all NMEA data perfectly) off. I dont use windows defender. I will try and turn off my firewall now.

This is not a question of Defender.

The internal firewall might need the permission for OCPN to access to the network.

In case of the S-63 plug-in you will be asked when running it the first time.

Hi, I allowed the firewall to recognise Open CPN initially. I disable my firewall and tried again. No luck.

What is a S63 plugin?

S-63 are official, licensed charts (S-57 ENC encrypted): to use these charts there exists a dedicated plug-in. This plug-in uses "sockets" for communication and will trigger that question/request from the firewall.
Was just an example what happens when such an event happens and Windows asks what to do.

opencpn.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Windows10 has become now very smart...
The user will be notified when a solution of this crash will be available.
But how many years that takes for the people in Redmond?

I doubt that this is a firewall problem. In any event, that should not crash OCPN.

But, you (and we) are in luck.

We are running a Beta test now, OpenCPN V 4.5.213.
During Beta testing, we have Crash Reporting enabled fro Windows.

So, if you will download and install the 4.5.213 Beta, run the same test, you will get the opportunity to send a crash report. After you submit the report, I will see it almost immediately. And we shall see what we see.

You may want to install the Beta download in parallel, so that you can continue to use O44 for daily work.
