Now, if you really want some “fun” get Microsoft Remote Desktop client for iPad. Then connect it to your Windows machine using the compter’s IP address and same port #(3389 or 3390). You can launch and see O on the iPad.

Will try android if it is not too big, my phone is only S4 and running out of space! Trying to remove apps now. Found a 2gb cache that I cleaned out and got back my space, but I have to be careful.

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

To start up Opencpn again.
Open Ubuntu console
sudo service xrdp start
sudo service ssh start

Then start Remote Desktop Connection
and log in.

I can't seem to get dual canvas to work. Is there some reason?

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

No reason I can think of. Dual canvas works for me. Go to Options->Display->General and click the dual screen icon.

You have to let the build system install the program so it copies all the style files and so forth to the right places. So maybe your install didn't go as planned.

in the build folder type:

sudo make install

Then run OpenCPN from the program start menu on the desktop. Maybe you are starting opencpn from a command line and starting it from the build folder. That won't always work.

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

I ran sudo make install from the opencpn/build folder.
Then tried opening it from Remote Desktop Connection using "Applications > Education > Opencpn"
See screenshot

Dual canvas can be selected, but it just goes back to single canvas

Is there a better way to start Opencpn? Maybe I should start some graphics....?

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

I used Application Manager to search for Opencpn and started it that way.
Then I checked Display and see that there is no Opengl which may be as expected.

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

Maybe I should git clone opencpn again and build it again?

Following:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2896716

From the Ubuntu command screen
rgleason@Dart:~$ export DISPLAY=:0.0
rgleason@Dart:~$ opencpn
and I get the ATK errors and
Missing GDK++ error

No internet with the inet browser, but that is probably a Norton 360 issue.

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

I missed the "OK" button on Display because the screen cut it off!
When that is hit it starts up fine.
Sorry!

OpenCPN Chartdownloader has access to download fine. Works like a charm.
So the problem accessing the internet may be with the Browser.

Hm, I will probably never understand why one want to run a proper system on top of something broken.
Do it the other way round: Install a GNU/Linux on your Laptop, openCPN comes with most distributions already precompiled (e.g. https://build.opensuse.org/project/s...on:Geo:OpenCPN ) and for the rare case you need some spyware running, have a VBox with Windoze.

We are doing development work. This system is much easier to use than Windows or Linux in a VM. No VM needed at all.

We aren’t promoting it as something a real user might want to do.

Just for the kick of it

OpenCPN running in WSL

Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04 with xfce4 desktop, latest Xming (7.7.0.44, Xming X Server for Windows - Official Website , 10 £)
O runs OK, also compiles fine, as well as XyGrib. qtVlm too runs fine.

Re: O5 Linux in Ubuntu 18.04LTS for Windows10

I like this system. It uses far less than 2gb and once the steps and commands are understood it is quite easy and you are running Linux and can build! Awesome setup, thank you Transmitter Dan. Super!
