OCPN 3 & OpenGL

My old laptop, Toughbook CF73 running XP Pro, doesnt really like OpenGL. It has the Intel 915 GM/GMS, 910 GML chipset with the most current Intel drivers. I'm kind of guessing that it supports an older implementation of OpenGL and hasnt been updated.

I've had a couple of odd errors that I've never seen before with OCPN when trying out OpenGL. Most recently, coming back from hibernation, OCPN seemed to have taken over the display and the only fix was a POR - Alt/Tab and CtrlAltDel both failing to work.

This isnt meant to be a bug report, more an indication of which chipsets do & dont work with OpenGL.

Yupp. That's the bugger with OCPN OpenGL, many users will have laptops with MS Windows and Intel integrated graphics, where the OpenGL drivers are iffy at best, and sometimes just plain broken...

Re: OCPN 3 & OpenGL

As I can run both OpenCPN 3.0 in OpenGL mode and MaxSea 12.6 on an old Sumicom S625 with a 855GM chipset, Win7 starter, I'm not so sure it's a chipset issue.
The most current drivers didn't work for me of course, I found on the web that I had to use the Intel(R) Graphics Controller 6.14.10.372. As the 855GM chipset is not supported by Win7, the latter will normally choose the standard VGA adapter as the video driver. To stop that you have to edit the file c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys.
Hope this helps you.

Re: OCPN 3 & OpenGL

Actually the "Hanging after coming back from sleep" issue is a typical Intel 915 OpenGL driver problem. Several users has reported that setting the "Driver memory footprint" to "Low" in the Intel Advanced > 3D Settings solves this problem. But with this setting OpenCPN display of raster charts doesn't work. So no good solution I am afraid.
