nkiesel...

re:
"Still trying to understand what makes the AIS icons special"

Not really special, but we are trying hard to make all graphic elements do the right thing on a huge variety of screen configurations and platforms, without explicit reference to platform specific implementation details. If one drills down into other items like ownship, or buoys, similar math will be found.

I'd be glad to look at any tweaks for AISDrawTarget() that you may want to experiment with.

Meanwhile, is there some override setting for screen size(mm) that gives you an acceptable AIS display? We should capture this special case for the Wiki.

Thanks
Dave

The beam scaling is calculated from the LOA scaling, but looks wrong, also.

Does this make sense? Try to boost the min size (mm) parameter, and see what happens.

Dave
Th screen shots are zoomed in a lot, it gets worse when zooming out , using the original config setting. Zoomed in the boat is 8 mm on screen. Zooming out until just before the boat-shape is replaced, the size is down to 4mm.

Boosting the min size to 20 mm does work!!! The boat is about 20 mm independent of zoom factor.

Zoomed in, as in the screen shots, I get these results
Code:
Min size on screen beam on screen
10 8 1.5
15 10 2
18 15 3
20 19 4
If I use the Default Own Ship icon, I measure it to 6mm, same size as the AIS targets.

Resolution 96 x 96 dpi
Dimensions 1024 x 768 pixels 270 x 203 mm

Thanks

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

Dave,

FYI, I have seen 2 crashes of the latest git master of O on Windows. Both cases are related to different things. One was a double delete of a pointer. I haven't been able to duplicate it.

Another crash was this function:

wxString toSDMM( int NEflag, double a, bool hi_precision )

It was passed a NaN in the variable a.

I am investigating but I think there are some additional debugging runs needed before releasing into the wild.

Hakan, how does real scale bitmaps looks for you nowadays?

Thanks!

Dave.. Thomas..
BTW; It's the same pattern on my RPi, Raspbian, Jessie. The scaled bitmap icon is as tiny as on Win10. The other two boat symbols are fine.

It works in Win 10. Is it for all chart types or only some?

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

Hi there...

Status update:
We are nearly ready to start O4.8.1 Beta.

However, our Beta and production linux build system using Ubuntu PPA is presently unavailable due to efforts by the Ubuntu build-farm maintainers to mitigate Meltdown/Spectre. This effort does not affect our local Windows and Mac build processes.

We build and distribute for linux over 3 processor architectures and 4 linux distro versions. It is probably impractical to manually build and distribute to Beta all 12 versions of O481 for linux in all its flavors. Further, the actual PPA process of finding and installing OCPN updates on Ubuntu/Debian linux machines is actually part of the test process.

So, we are on hold for a few days. If there is no change in linux build-bot situation shortly, we will start Beta anyway for Windows and Mac.

We are all interconnected...

Thanks for your patience
Dave

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

Testing 4.8.10101

Using my empty chart group the background chart does not show, which it does in 4.8.0.
So ...I installed it GSHHG from the chart downloader. I had to manually decompress poly-f-2.3.7.tar.xz bfore I could get the chart to show.
After adding GSHHG to the empty group, all is well.

I can see these bugs:
O 4.8.10101 can't find and use already existing basemaps.
The downloaded GSHHS charts does not auto decompress.

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

Dave

I already compiled O 4.8.1 from git on Ubuntu 17.10.

All goes well except I have to edit one line in CMakeLists.txt. I have to change:
Code:
SET (PACKAGE_DEPS "libc6, libwxgtk3.0-0, wx3.0-i18n, libglu1-mesa (>= 7.0.0), libgl1-mesa-glx (>= 7.0.0), zlib1g, bzip2, libtinyxml2.6.2, libportaudio2")
to:
Code:
SET (PACKAGE_DEPS "libc6, libwxgtk3.0-0v5, wx3.0-i18n, libglu1-mesa (>= 7.0.0), libgl1-mesa-glx (>= 7.0.0), zlib1g, bzip2, libtinyxml2.6.2v5, libportaudio2")
Is there a way to automate this process. If not, then it is not a big deal for me.

P.S. Same thing with ubuntu 16.04

Thanks
Jean-Marie

On my Win10 I've mouse over chart info IF there are more then one bar. With a single CM93 no info, when more bars all info works. Also CM93.

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

cagney....

Corrected ownship "Real scale bitmap" mode in github.

Problem was clear. In GL mode, the calculated scale factor was applied twice, leading to a scale-squared render.

Let me know how this looks now.

Also, anyone tried ownship usericon, and various scaling logic?

@bcn, I recall you have a nice ownship user icon...

Thanks

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

Dave...

- OwnShip is not distortioned.
- Antenna position is not handled correctly for small sizes. (y-axis).
More:
- With minimum screen size of 15 the result is about 10mm for raster. And with 30 about 16mm
- same settings for real scale vector and raster result in different sizes.

OpenGL ON - With OpenGL off the icon is drawn with the correct size and antenna pos is correct as well.
OpenGL OFF draws real size vector with the default vector and correct antenna position.

(I shall have fetched the latest changes from Github)
