Old GPX FIles Losing Information

I have some older lets, say 2 yrs old, gpx files that once worked. It might have been O vers 2.4 that I was using at the time. The gpx files are created with G7toWin.

Looking at a mark with route manager>properties the symbol is empty and the name display box is not checked.

An entry looks like this_
<wpt lat="18.158333333" lon="-63.183333333">
<time>2008-04-04T10:42:52Z</time>
<name>ANGLLA</name>
<cmt>Anguilla off west point</cmt>
<desc>Anguilla off west point</desc>
<sym>Anchor</sym>
<extensions>
<gpxx:WaypointExtension xmlns:gpxx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3/GpxExtensionsv3.xsd">
<gpxxisplayMode>SymbolOnly</gpxxisplayMode>
</gpxx:WaypointExtension>
</extensions>
</wpt>

(Those smiley faces seem to be caused by a colonD)

All my marks are archived in a spread sheet.

Any suggestions?

David...
In which version are you now trying to use the files? Could you please attach a complete file here?

Try to replace "Anchor" in the <sym> tag with "anchorage" (without the colons of course).

Hint:

To keep text from getting interpreted as smily faces, etc. use advanced editing and then put CODE tags around your code (highlight the text and then click the button with a # on it).

Actually all I have to do is is change "Anchor" to "anchor" and O displays the anchor symbol. Now Ihave to figure out how to get O to check the "Display Symbol" box in properties.

Ideas?

You mean "Display Name"?

If loaded as (Temporary) Layer, it works fine for me ...

Re: Old GPX FIles Losing Information

David...
Very simple as well... BTW, even if we implemented this part of Garmin's extensions, the name display would be disabled because it's set to SymbolOnly in your file...
To reslove it, replace the string
Code:
<extensions>
with
Code:
<extensions><opencpn:viz_name>1</opencpn:viz_name>
And then import the file, you are all set.

Re: Old GPX FIles Losing Information

Thank you all for the help!

I did like keeping my waypoint database in a spread sheet. I kept a lot of extra information e.g. whether the WP had been use tested, its origin etc. However, Once I get good GPX files I'll probably give up.

If there's anyone in a similar situation PM me and maybe I can help.

Here is my current process: (The "Temp sheet is a template that G7toWIN understands)
1 Copy Name, lat, lon, and comment columns to "Temp" sheet
2 Put W in col (A), Name (B), Comment (K), 18 (L), S+N (N), leave other colums blank
3 Remove blank lines
4 Copy entire "Temp" sheet to new workbook, including header line
5 "save as" csv file in /Navigation/csv files/
6 Run G7toWin and open csv file, Save as GPX file
7 Open GPX file in Notepad, replace "Waypoint" with "triangle", replace "<extensions>" with "<extensions><opencpn:viz_name>1</opencpn:viz_name>", save file
8 Check in O and Mapsource
