Re: Open cpn

Try exiting opencpn completely and re-entering only after in landscape mode, and do everything from landscape mode, and see if the debugger window is better.

The debugger plugin works better if you can install my apk, it has debugger which has two screens for nmea, and vdr which can record to a file.

Re: Open cpn

The shot you posted, the nmea sentences are malformed and incorrect, but we don't know what opencpn is actually reading.

Did the window not get any wider if you restart opencpn in landscape and follow all steps in landscape?

The only other options I can think of:
1) get the vdr plugin working and record the stream
2) get the debugger plugin working which displays both raw nmea, and parsed nmea
3) create a new connection for opencpn for a remote client to connect to
Create a new "tcp" connection on ip "0.0.0.0" port say 12345
Now connect to the ip address of the phone using telnet or netcat either over wifi, or possibly from an android telnet client to that port.

Re: Open cpn

This seems ludicrous to have to get so technical to get a damn map to work I'm sorry I don't know what more to do I would love to resolve this problem so I can have at least a backup for my delivery but I don't know at this point

Re: Open cpn

Scuba...
Clearly something funny about your device. Thousands of Android users have OpenCPN with internal GPS working fine.
So let us settle down and try to find out what the problem with your device is.

I'll try again:

1. Hold the phone horizontal.
2. Start OpenCPN.
3. Open OCPN settings (tap the "wrench" icon)
4. Go to "connections" tab. Click the "Show NMEA debug" checkbox.
5. Close OCPN settings by touching "OK" button.

At this point you should see a wide image like the one shown here:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=170923&d=1527885513

Except, the little window with test "(Virtual), etc" should extend over most of the screen width.

Wait until you see a line containing "$GPRMC..." and take a screen shot of that.

Standing by...

Re: Open cpn

BoatScuba...

I notice from your screen shots that you are testing the "free" version of OpenCPN available from several online sources.

Please be advised that we have no idea how well that app works, if at all, on your particular phone. We do not know the full contents or functionality of that modified app.

Frankly, we have no interest in debugging a modified antique Beta test version of OpenCPN.

Thanks for your understanding

Re: Open cpn

Boat Scuba...

But I see from another earlier screenshot that you also have the Playstore version 1.0.18, which is the current release.

Happy to debug that one....

Thanks

Re: Open cpn

Boat Scuba...

OK, that is the correct screenshot we requested for the NMEA messages as seen by OCPN.

And we see that, sure enough, the longitude portion of the GPRMC and GPGGA messages are corrupted.

Never seen that form of corruption before. There is some vague internet hits suggesting that some LG phones produce bad NMEA data, even though the Android internal position data is technically correct. I am still plowing through the citations, and I have nothing definite to quote yet.

I will keep searching for the root cause.
But I suspect we may find that this is a hard fault in the phone OS firmware, since the "GPS NMEA" app produces the same error in GPRMC.

Is there a possibility of updating the firmware on that phone?

More info as I know it.

Re: Open cpn

BoatScuba...

I found this thread for another app (iFly) that uses NMEA data on LG phone.

https://www.iflygps.com/Support/Foru...12/scope/posts

Screen shot attached of relevant post.

Long story short: Exactly the same problem your phone is having, and concludes that the phone firmware is bad.

Of course, we can fix this in OpenCPN for Android. And we probably will. But our next Release point is likely some months away, so won't help you now.

However, if you are interested in testing a Beta version of the fix, come on over to the OpenCPN for Android Forum, and we can co-ordinate that over the next few days.

Sorry we don't have the answer you are looking for now.

Re: Open cpn

Scuba...

Sure. You can download the purchased version to as many of your own personal devices as you like, old or new.
Or you may process a refund through Playstore, as you wish.

Thanks, and good luck....
