OPEN CPN AND GOOGLE EARTH

Hello friends.

I have been trying to get my mind away from short days and gray skies by downloading the google earth plugin for open cpn, unfortunately with no success.

I have downloaded google earth and the appropriate dll file for open cpn, which I duly copied to the C:\OPEN CPN\PLUGINS directory.

However, when I open the plugins tab, google earth does not appear on the list.

Could anyone figure out what I should do next?

Which system are your on and which version of OpenCPN you are using?

The plugin has to be in C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\plugins (or C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins in case of a 64 bit system) in a normal OpenCPN installation.
If you have it there and you just made a mistake in your post, please have a look in your logfile - there should be some relevant info.

thankyou nohal. the dll file is indeed where it is supposed to be and is shown in the log readout.

Try this -

1. After clicking the GE Icon wait a few seconds and pan the screen a tiny bit. 2. You should get the GE screen showing the earth.
3. In the GE screen ensure that "Follow chart viewport" is selected.
4. Pan the chart slightly again and GE will zoom in to the area shown on your chart.

I'm trying to learn how to use the Google Earth plug in. I do not get an GE overlay or anything else.

1. I've downloaded and installed the ver 1.0 exe file.
2. The dll file is in the proper place and according to the opencpn.log has loaded.
3. I've enabled the plug in and selected "follow chart viewport". The other selections are as default.
4. I get the GE icon.
5. When I click the icon a translucent popup appears with a checkbox of "connected to chart viewport" checked. Also has a "save" button.
6. The computer has GPS data and is connected to the internet (since I'm typing this.)
7. I cannot find the Installation Instructions for ver 1.0
8. GLL is installed.
9. Windows 7 and OpenCpn ver 4.0

So my questions are:

1. What's not happening, or what am I doing wrong?
2. Are there any ver. 1.0 instructions?
3. Help!!!!

I have been having this exact problem, then realised that I did not have Google Earth installed, but Google Earth Pro which is now available free of charge. I installed the standard Google Earth and it worked.

It would be great if the plugin could be modified to work with both.

Well that part of your problem is solved, since the days are longer than the nights now.

Not sure about the rest of your problem, though.

I could never get the google earth plugin to work for me. The scale was always off no matter what I tried. But the GE2KAP plugin works great, so I don't miss it.

The Google Earth plugin doesn't work with the 7.1.5 vers of Google Earth. They have changed their external interface. You either have to get an older version of GE of get a mod for their interface at DownloadÂ*
