Dave.....
I have had the odd crash after mucking around for quite some time, without any pattern more than actively using the program for at least 10 min, scaling in/out creating/deleting routes, moving to a different ocean etc etc. To catch this I started to run OpenCPN through ddd all the time. Caught something strange an hour ago. The program froze, but did not segfault. You could see the frame of the program but no chart, totally froze... Apart from opencpn the box worked alright. The opencpn process was still running, no abnormal cpu/memory resources was used. I hope you can draw some conclusion from the screen-dump.

I can scale at runtime, but it would be better if done before natively on the SVG.
Also, tidesml fell out of the icon.cpp file.

_img_ship is now 33x65 & there is no transparency in _img_tidesml + it found its way back in cpp

Radar Rings Scale Issue - Non-North Up Charts

Dave, I tested the radar rings scale issue yesterday on a series of ENC and RNC charts on the Toms River in NJ USA. All of the charts displayed the rings at proper scale except those charts that are not printed "north up." In particular Chart 12324_5, a small craft chart, displayed the rings too small by an order of magnitude. This confirms my earlier result and your earlier finding about the skewed charts.

Dave

Today after 3 hours I caught this segfault. Most of the time being idle.
The crash happened while just checking a BSB chart moving around an zooming in/out.

Build process with 64 Bit Linux

Hi,

I tried to build opencpn from the sources. I have sidux 2009-2 amd64 (debian) installed

"./configure" stops at:

checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking for useable OpenGLU Library
checking for gluNewTess in -lGLU... no
configure: error: *** libGLU not found. Run configure using --with-tess-internal.

I don't understand the message because libglu is already installed:

ii libglu1-mesa 7.5.1-1 The OpenGL utility library (GLU)
ii libglut3 3.7-25 the OpenGL Utility Toolkit

You probably need the dev packages. I install these:
Code:
libwxgtk2.8-dev libc6-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglib2.0-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libstdc++6-4.3-dev
Hope that helps.

Will

Dave,
is there kind of windowsXP debugger that could help?
I was just checking how many ships AIS show up around my place, not my boat, that is 120W instead of 120E, I had 2 green and 6 yellow targets, the info box showed tanker for each, closed the box, wanted to zoom out (scrollwheel Logitech G5) and - no more oCPN.
The log file does not show anything at all, only the last chart loaded an hour ago, then cut.
At least one thing, every time there was a mouse action involved.

About the function "Send to GPS..." of the pop-up menu "Route" : is it active or is it being developped ?

I think it is a very important one for cruising (more than the shape of the ship...) and it doesn't work with me.

I know I can do this with GPSBabel and .GPX but it is not very easy

Dave...

I have been using OpenCPN constantly for several days now, trying this and that without any problems. I am running Vista Home version (basic) I have quite a large amount of charts installed and the transition from one to the other is quick and easy.

Also note the direct IP feed I am using consists of around 6000 vessels...

Thanks and regards

On todays crash menu ....SIGPIPE !!
Started Phiggins AIS simulator. Came back after some tea, and found that opencpn had crashed. "We" had made good a distance of 9.55 miles at about 14 kts.

Dave..

Talking about Phiggins AIS simulator...
Is there any possibility to include a passage simulator in Open CPN?
During the cold winter nights when I lived in Norway and my boat was waist deep in snow on land,I used the Fugawi Marine ENC simulator to follow all my planned routes for the next summers cruise, over and over so when the real thing came, I knew every buoy and lighthouse.

When the simulator finished, I restarted from the beginning again. Deleted the old tracks. Did not see a track behind "my" vessel even though the track-button was down, so I clicked the track-button......and had a SIGSEGV.

The crash above was repeatable. This time, when back at the start position for the simulator there was of course the old track, but also, at the same time a "ghost track" heading from the vessel in a straight line towards 340°, similar to what we saw with the track-bug a few "betas" back.

10 min later: Deleted the track while running the simulator. No track behind vessel when continuing to move, even though the track button was down. Clicking the track-button this time did not create a crash the first time, the second time it did indeed create a new SIGSEGV.

jean-Pieere,

Are you trying to save the route or upload it to the GPS unit?

If you want to save the route, use export... and save as GFX. That is working fine.

If you are uploading to a hand held GPS, I have no idea if that is working as I don't have a handheld to test it with.
