Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

RhythmDoctor

Since many, many years ago I was frustated about the way updates for OpenCPN was done. Always after an update several things doesn't work anymore.
Fortunately I'm able to build my own version of OpenCPN and so I also don't need to take over new functions in these updates which I dislike. Thanks to the open source I only pick and choose the useful functions for me.
This approach results for me in my own useful version of OpenCPN, same as for the plugins.
As I see right now it is the only way to be fully satisfied by this software but not many people are able to do so.

OK, I've entered this bug into Flyspray:

https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.p...s&task_id=2581

I ask everyone here who uses OpenCPN to plan and plot routes to go to the above link and click where it says "vote" so that this essential feature, which has been present in prior versions, will be restored in the next maintenance update.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

I have a problem with version 5.0.
if I have set an anchoralarm and the alarm is sounding I cannot stop this, everything freezes and iof I like to change position or whatsoever the app is not responding anymore.
I got back to 4.8.6 what was more stable for me.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

I am having an issue with AIS targets on the android version.

On my Pixel 2 phone (and my wife's) sometimes AIS targets are not displayed.
Sometimes they are. Both phones show this intermittent behavior.

On my Samsung tablet, it works all of the time.

Not sure how why this is happening.

I am receiving my targets over WIFI from a vespar wifi AIS transponder.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

I think I have found the issue I am having with the chart downloader. The screen that displays to add a catalog in the chart downloader tab is not handling the screen resolution properly. I am running windows 10 (home) on a Lenovo Yoga 930. I have played with various screen resolutions and can see that OpenCPN is being affected by those changes but not enough until I reduce the screen resolution down to a much lower level.

Worst impact resolution - 3840 x 2160
Best impact resolution - 1920 - 1440

The Lenovo 930 is new version and it looks to me like Lenovo is doing something that OpenCPN does not like. I am happy to run whatever testing procedure you would like in order to gain the data needed to fix the problem.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

At Options|Display|Advanced please check the screen size.
If the automatically set one is not correct, modify it.
(Horizontal screen width in mm)

I modified the HSW from 0 to 1000 in increments of 100 with no observable change. The Automatic setting was 350.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

Which is the real one and what screen resolution is reported in the log file?
Did you shut down and restarted OpenCPN after modifying with width?

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

With HiRes screens you will want to play with the User Interface settings at options. Scalable UserInterface.

I have enabled both Touch Screen Interface & Scaled Graphics Interface and saw that the tool bar increased in size to a more appropriate scale.

The chart downloader add screen was not affected.

Logfile shows changes I made to horizontal width yet no change to add screen.

Screen resolution bug in 5.01 for MacOS

Have a Mac with screen resolution 2560 x 1600 Retina.

In OpenCPN with OpenGL OFF I get 2560x1600. Black tiles on the display though and excruciatingly slow.

With OpenGL ON I get 1280x800. Log file says
"15:16:48 CEST: Metrics: m_display_size_mm: 286 wxDisplaySize: 1280:800"

Would it not be better to have my 2560x1600 in OpenGL?

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

I am also having trouble with home brewed charts being slewed in OCPN V5; didn't have problem with OCPN V4. I think something going on with OpenGL also; give you more bug info as I dive into this problem... Thought it was me building new home brewed RNC charts from my shrimp trawling topographic data in the Florida Keys. I'll be using older version till problem sorted out. Keep up the good work; great chart plotter program. I have always used OpenGL for all my software development projects; even though MS still prefers the use of DirectX.

OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting - Mac OS 10.15

The version 4.8.8 was beautiful.
The version 5 has a bug on the GRIB plug in:
GRIB > Settings > Performed some change > OK .... and the program crash and close.

Just I noticed of this problem to help somebody able to "repair" it.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

Running the Python code, below, the OpenCPN to get stuck and I can't see any data in the debug window. The only thing I can do is end the program. The red exit button is the only thing that works.

Quote:
import socket
HOST = "127.0.0.1"
PORT = 10110
with socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) as s:
s.connect((HOST, PORT))
s.sendall(b"$GPGSV 4,1,14,01,29,162,10,03,81,134,13,06,30,307,,09,19, 221,27*71\x0d\x0a")
The logfile logs like after sending the string:

I use Ubuntu 18.04.
I have not enabled any other unit. But when I do. GPS via GPSD and AIS via /dev/ttyACM0 works fine. I got the same result if using UDP instead of TCP.
