Opencpn 5.2.0

I'm running Opencpn 5.0.0 at the moment so can I just upgrade to 5.2.0 straight over the top or do do I need to do something first? Is there anything to be aware of without messing things up as V5.0.0 is running fine.

Cheers Rod.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

Rod..
Yes, an upgrade "over the top" will be fine.
No, nothing to prepare. Just let all default installation choices be as they are.
Good luck.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

I'm on Mac OSX Catalina 10.15.3 and having difficulty installing and starting OpenCPN 5.2. Install seems to be fine when I run the package but then 5.2 doesn't start but gives error message "Deleted stale lock file'/Users/coqui/Library/Preferences/opencpn/_OpenCPN_SILock'". Crash report is below. I tried this on another Mac with Yosemite and still the same issue. Any help would be much appreciated:

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

The message about the "deleted stale lock file" is due the the crash before.
Normal thus.

Can you please post the next part of the crash report as well? Until where the first thread ends in the report.

Which charts are you using (if any)?

Here is the crash report with threads. Let me know if need to see more and I'll send it as an attachment.
The charts I was using with previous version were NOAA RNC and ENC charts for US CA.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

I'm running OpenCPN 5.2.0. It is working pretty well.

I'd like to have it autostart full screen but can't find the configuration page for that. On an OpenMarine thread another poster asked the same question.

The answer was "openCPN installer - autostart opencpn / full screen".

It must be obvious, like where I last left my glasses, but I can't find an OpenCPN installer to run and don't recall seeing this option during the installation. Can anyone direct me to where this option is set? I tried to do it with scripting in rc.local but it didn't work.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

I'm getting a 404 error on the Photolayer plugin when trying to install. The website depiction must be incorrect in the code.

Opencpn must be started from the command line like this
Code:
opencpn -fullscreen
To automate this put it in a script that runs when you start your computer.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

Its a new day with new eyes. I have gotten so conditioned to having to dive into the terminal to get anything to work that I never noticed that in the Graphical User Interface there is a menu item under OpenPlotter called OpenCPN installer which has action buttons at the top of the page for selecting autostart and full screen.

I'm not sure why my scripts failed but having found the command in the interface, I'll be happy and move on.

I think a fair number of OpenPlotter users would want their installs to restore themselves to operational condition after a power blip. Directions on how to do this should be in the manual.

Since there are many topics in the index without supporting text, I'm guessing that they need volunteers to help develop the documentation.

I'd be willing to document this with screen shots and text along with a few more if the project owners want to reach out to me. I'm the ideal tech writer since I don't have any experience to get in my way.

Re: Opencpn 5.2.0

StoneCrab

Some good ideas......
but they belong in an OpenPlotter forum. This is an OpenCPN forum.
