Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

mgrouch...

Some failing sK recordings would help us determine which element is at fault.
Possible?

Possible but not from me. I don稚 even have NMEA 2000 on my boat. I知 at anchor right now on a small boat. I do not have keyboard or mouse attached to my pi. Using just touchscreen and phone

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I run here OpenCPN latest flatpak version on an RPI4 with 2GB. Connected to the SignalK server via the Canable board or the NGT-1 connected to a Garmin GPS NMEA2000 antenna.

This combined with NMEA input from my RTL-SDR dongle for Ais reception.

Have no AIS transponder here at home.

All these items work without any problem on my RaspiOS64 and my Ubuntu Jammy 64.

OpenCPN route data is transmitted back to the signalK server. But only RMS, RMB and XTE.

I see no errors and this setup works for hours on the RPI.

Input in OpenCPN is SignalK and output is NMEA183 udp port 2000 with a setup in SignalK to receive this data on udp port 2000.

The output route data can be seen on NMEA2000 B&G displays with the right settings.

What is the difference. Is it the transponder data ?

And remind that the RPI needs a good power supply !

I知 not on my boat now, but I will be next Saturday. I値l record and send signalk output then.

@Bram: do you have a signalk-connection to your raspberry or NMEA? I use NMEA currently and read the n2k with the KIP-plugin from the signalk server in a browser, which works fine.

Hi Hans,

I now always use the SgnalK input to OpenCPN on the RPI. The route data from OpenCPN to the SignalK server, however ,is NMEA183. No option for SK.

But you must select the items you send back to the SK server, otherwise the data is "singing around".

Works on my RPI's and also on my AMD64 with Linux Mint Vanessa.

Groet,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Hi Bram,

Afaik I don't send any data back to signalk, since my OpenCPN-pi has no sensors, it's only meant for OpenCPN. My Signalk-pi has a connection to my AIS (0183), GPS (0183), pypilot and N2K to USB converter, which currently only serves my tank levels, but hopefully more in the future. I didn't use signalk before I got my N2K to USB adapter, so I don't know whether that is the problem, or something else.

Hartelijke groet,
Hans

Hi Hans,

you are using two RPI's ? One for OpenCPN ? and one for the data of your otherPi.

Do you use the data of the dataPi also in the OpenCPN-pi. In the SK format it is very easy to use the data on other OpenCPN versions.

What I mean by sending OpenCPN data back, that is when you have made a route in
OpenCPN and like to transfer this to your NMEA2000 bus. Perhaps you like to show the info in MxTommy display or to an NMEA183 or NMEA2000 auto-pilot.

It is not clear to me why your are using 2 systems. All this can be done in one system.

Groet,

Bram

Hi Bram,

I use two raspberries, so I always have a spare when one breaks. The signalk server has a webserver too, on which I host a site to access heating controls, light controls, etc. It also runs homebridge, so I can use the heating controls and the lighting controls from my iPhone.

I have 5 180Ah batteries, so power is not really a problem on board. If it would become a problem, I also have a diesel generator and hopefully soon solar panels.

Hartelijke groet,
Hans

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I seem to be able to get this freezing behavior using AquaMap to connect to the SignalK 3000/tcp port. With it enabled in AM I get a freeze within a few minutes. With it disabled, OCPN seems to be working fine.

AquaMap doesn't seem to like the NMEA0183 port 10110/tcp.

FWIW its a pi4 with the latest openplotter 64 bit downloaded today. I have a PiCAN hat but nothing connected to it.

Hans, I am having the same issue, did you find a solution? I have also tried multiple installs and versions of OpenCPN as well as SignalK. The second I enable NMEA data from SignalK it locks up. No issues if I route NMEA data directly to OpenCPN.

I use SignalK for KIP and also Victron data.. I would really like to get this working again.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I'm using several SignalK connections every day.

I'm not using the SignalK connection option "Automatic server discovery".
Could that be a difference? If so switch it off and try.

Rebuilt it on a new SD, nothing different, but now I can't reproduce it

Sorry it took me a while to put the log here, but with file and size restrictions (and a lot of visitors yesterday) I could only manage now.

I had a few problems with SD-cards too, so now I use SSD's connected to the USB port of my pi-4's. Installing is faster, the pi is faster and it's less prone to errors.

Hi Hans,

I have used usb3 SSD in the past. But now I have switched to the modern 3.1 fast USB sticks. Like the Samsung 3.1 flash drive FitPlus. Speed up to 300 mb/s. 64 GB.

Very easy to use and stable and also cheap. You can easy take the complete OS charts etc. to you home. Or make a copy as a back-up. It works just as fast as the SSD's.
