OpenCPN 5.8 crashes with OpenGL

Hi ! Version 5.8 installed. But I clearly have a problem with OpenGL. As soon as I check the box, and close OpenCPN, it crashes on restart. I can start it without fail. This is not annoying in itself but prevents having all the graphic functionalities of the display. It could also be that OpenGL is mishandled on my PC. In particular the texture cache which I can't manage from the OpenGL options in OpenCPN. If anyone knows I'm grateful. I did not encounter this problem on 5.6. THANKS.
My PC : ASUS predator Helios 300, Intel Core I5, W10, RAM 32GB, GPU NVIDIA 1050Ti with last drivers, O-charts Spain.

Hi,

I am also having this issue, although the crashes seem intermittent - however if zoom right out quickly, seems to induce it.

- Clean install done
- 3 main plugins I use all use Open GL - Radar, draw and s63
- I am using the AUSENC and NZENC hydrographic charts

I did some testing this morning and everything seems to work when I'm not using the CM93 charts.

We have a known problem with O58(Windows 10) using cm93 on OpenGL, with some brands/versions of Graphics cards.


It would be helpful if users experiencing this specific problem (O58, OpenGL, cm93, Windows ) would respond here with details of their systems, especially the Graphics system chip vendor/model, and driver details.
This would help us to isolate the problem.

See attached.

Dell Latitude E7240
Graphics card is from Intel and seems to be built in and nothing extravagant.

OpenCPN 5.8.

Crashes randomly (not frequently) with CM93 when zooming.
I do suspect it has to do with certain chart objects (which may appear after zooming in or out).

Used to do that also in the previous OpenCPN version, but not enough to be a problem. We use primarily MBtiles currently.

Mine does not crash. Running 5.8.0.0+0b3b417
Laptop running W10 21H2, ASUS UX425JA with an Intel UHD display adapter (that's all it says), on an Intel Core i5 CPU with 8GB memory.
Intel driver version: Intel® Graphics Driver 31.0.101.2121 for 6th-10th Gen Intel
I have tried 2 versions of CM93 and both work OK. Only other charts are self-made mbtiles (lots and lots of them).

HOWEVER, the "crash on opening CM93 Offset dialog" reported in 5.7.1 and fixed before RC2 is back. Maybe some fixes got lost? Or maybe I didn't test the fix enough.
Should I add this bug to the tracker?

If I zoom in to the place I'm trying to adjust, so there is only one level of chart displayed in the adjustment box, it does not crash.
If I try to adjust zoomed out a little, I see 2 lines in the adjustment box. As soon as I click into the box, even if I click into/onto the same chart selection as works if I am zoomed in, it crashes. Sometimes it crashes immediately as soon as I display the dialog.
This is VERY reproducible. I would be happy to provide any details you want.

Obviously I didn't test the fix enough. I reverted to RC2 and it crashes the same way. So, it is possible to adjust the chart if you only have 1 level of CM93 chart in view, but it crashes if there are 2 levels of charts (as show in screenshot on previous post).
Sorry, didn't mean this to be a red herring, as the more general crash affecting more people is more important, but I thought maybe they are related.

I can make OpenCPN crash on Linux too, using above instructions. As soon as there is more than one cell listed in the offset dialog, and one clicks on the second cell in the list, it crashes. So NOT related to Windows and OpenGL, but still a reproducible crash.
