Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

I have the same problem "Cannot find the oserverd utility at {}" on W10 laptop. De-installed, reinstalled, get respons on cmd line oeserverd -a , changed file settings, etc. to no avail. I include the log file, where the probleem seems to be:
18:25:03.273 ERROR utilsexc.cpp:876 Uitvoering van opdracht 'C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\oe senc_pi\oeserverd.exe -p OCPN1756'
mislukt (fout 193: unknown error c1) , meaning 876 Command <file name> -p OCPN1756 failed (error 193.....).

I'm at the point of giving up, after spending some 10 hours on this now. Please advice. Thanks, el

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

Can you check at Options|plug-ins the oeSENC version? Shall be 4.2.17.1

Is there any Virus Checker but the Microsoft Defender running on that system?

When you check the processes running (task-manager), oeserverd is present? How many instances? If there are more than one, delete them.

oeserverd -a renders what?

When started from the directory where it resides?

And if you go some steps up in the directory tree and invoke oeserverd -a from there?

In general it is not a good idea to have blanks in the name of a directory or file. In your case C:\Users\Lebret IVoRi Consult\ there are two.

It is indeed 4.2.17.1

Yes, F-Secure SAFE by my provider

I cannot find oeserverd under Processes nor under Services

oeserverd -a renders what?
from C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\oes enc_pi it returns:
oeserverd Version 1.14

oeserverd Version 1.14

And if you go some steps up in the directory tree and invoke oeserverd -a from there?
after ones cd .. it returns : not recognised as internal or external command etc.

I'll check how to change that, if needed. Does that mean I need to uninstal and reinstall OpenCPN (again) in that case?
Thanks, el

First try to stop the F-Secure thing.

[rant mode:] why using a different AV program from the already working MS Defender? It will just burden the system and often conflict.[/rant mode]

F-Secure works through MS Defender, and provides additional services. It is strongly promoted by my provider, which rates highest in professional and customer ratings.
Anyway, switched it off and received exactly the same error message when I tick the scan charts box.

And still can't find any occurence of oeserverd in task manager which seems rarther surprising to me. I've reinstalled the plugin several times also through "oesenc_pi-2.9.1530-ov50-win32.exe" which I saw as one of the proposed solutions to others sharing this same problem...

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

Task manager:
You shall see the oeserverd as sub process of "Chart plotter and Navigator", flip-down list with the ">" in front of the OCPN entry in Apps.

From the F-Secure help forum:
Quote:
Issue:

I've Installed F-Secure Email and Server Security but Windows Defender Real-time Protection is still on. Should I deactivate it when I'm using the F-Secure product?
Resolution:

Yes, Windows Defender should be deactivated when using F-Secure Email and Server Security. Multiple Anti-Virus products running at the same time may cause conflicts.

On Windows Server 2016/2019, Windows Defender will not enter passive or disabled mode if you install a third-party antivirus.

After installing a third-party antivirus you should uninstall Windows Defender AV on Windows Server 2016 to prevent problems caused by having multiple antivirus products installed on a machine.

If you are Using Windows Server, version 1803 and Windows 2019, you can enable passive mode by setting this registry key:

Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Advanced Threat Protection
Name: ForceDefenderPassiveMode
Value: 1
Article no: 000002236

From the F-Secure help forum:
Thanks again. The MS Defender virusscan is disabled (with F-Secure enabled); the Windows Firewall is enabled (no F-Secure here).

The task manager only shows:

^Chartplotter and Navigator (32-bits)
OpenCPN5.2.4+6b314e6

and nothing below that.

I can upload printscreen, if that helps. Thxs, el

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

One possibility here is that F-Secure is indeed "murdering" is oeserver daemon.
Can you turn it off?

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

I just want to emphasize bcn's advice;
For win10 my experience is the inbound Defender is good enough and not disturbing. There's no need (to pay) for any other virus defender.

I've turned it off: no difference.

It turns out the solution was in the first response about the use of spaces in username. I changed username and removed spaces. After that, OpenCPN worked as a charm. So F-Secure did not 'murder' oeserverd at all.
After changing username, I had to modify umpty broken links in the register (no ^H and 'change all' option in regedit (not savvy enough to use other editor)). Also had to repair several e-mail account in Outlook. Took quite a while, but everything works.

Many thanks again for the usefull support. Best, el

PS OpenCPN seems to be the only software that cannot handle spaces in username, had no other troubles with anything

Thanks for the comment. Subscription is included in provider fee; who am I as ICT-uninformed customer to go against their advice to protect myself/PC?
Moreover, it does not cause any problems apparently

NiXen..
Very good you solved the issue and thanks for the report.
Our comments about F-secure are based on other reports where it has make trouble. Good to hear it wasn't the cause in your case.
Just some more clarification so it's possible to correct if you please. Which username are you referring to? Your email address used at O-Charts? Or?

Håkan

It was the computer username (W10) that BCN commented on in the first response C:\Users\xxxxx xxxxx xxxx\ where xxx were words in username separate by spaces. Changed that to C:\Users\xxxxxxxxx\
without spaces, which solved the problem
Best, el

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

Ok, thanks.
I do agree about the "old fashion" method to not use white spaces but that Windows problem is generally solved by enclosing a pathway in quotes in a program code. Let's see if this discussion may lead to some corrections to oeSENC_pi or OCPN where the environment variables: HOMEPATH or COMPUTERNAME are used.

Re: OpenCPN 5 and oeSENC - oeserved

Hi I have installed OpenCPN 5.2.4 on my Linux Debian 11 ("Bullseye")
I have attached a video explaining the problems.

In short its this.
1. I cannot see or get any new plugins under plugins (I only get the four default thats already installed GRIB,Dashboard, WMM and Chartloader)
It does not mnatter if I press Update plugincatalog in either Beta or Master.

2. I did manually compile oesenc_pi and installed it to my linux, and it showed up as installed under Plugins, and also the oeSENC Charts tab arrived under "Charts"
But when I try to download charts the proogram (OpenCPN) just shuts down.

It's a bit hard to explain, please see the attached video.
I suspect there is some errors because i'm using debian and not ubuntu.

With regards
Atle
