OpenCPN all the things!

Hey guys,

I’m new to OpenCPN but been around boats a bit as well as tech stuff.

Quick question, well three

1 is there any view for sonar (fish finder) on OpenCPN?

2 is there a dash panel for engine parameters, fuel level and a range ring based on fuel flow and FOB?

3 can you overlay radar as well as AIS targets in the chart?

I’d like to clean up the cockpit on the small cutter I’m getting, I’d ideally like to have two post mount screens on the helm, with my chart with radar and ais overlay, ideally also a split with not only depth (which is only 1/2 the story) but also my sonar view, and tach, rpm, temp pressure FOB and range ring when motoring.

Is this something OpenCPN can do, or something there is another program for I could run split screen with open cpn?

Thanks!

1. No
2. No
3. Yes RTFM - But it depends on what RADAR you have.

Re: OpenCPN all the things!

Look at Raspberry PI, run Opencpn on it and use signalk for engine monitoring. Lots of info on other forums for this.

Re: OpenCPN all the things!

For the RasPi to make things simple, look here:

Sailing with free hardware | Sailoog

Radar: likewise AIS targets TTM sentences from a radar will be plotted directly.
For Radar overlays you will need the radar plugin and one of the supported domes. Refer to the documentation of the plug-in or search here in the forum.

And yes, study the manual. It's worthwhile...

Re: OpenCPN all the things!

Thanks for the reply

Kinda odd there no engine data stuff, but I’ll check they program out

Any software you’d recommend for the sonar? I’ve been using Navionics on the iPad, but I’m not sure how they would work on a helm mounted marine touchscreen
