Opencpn and ECMWF grib issue

Hi all I've recently started to use opencpn to view my grib files. I download them from predict wind via iridium.

To keep download sizes manageable I only down load GFS and ECMWF models.

The GFS loads into opencpn fine but if I try and load the ECMWF file I get an error message saying No valid GRIB file.

Has anyone come across this and if so is there an easy solution?

Many thanks.

You're out of luck.

Predict wind ECMWF GRIB are now encrypted and not readable by OpenCPN anymore.

You could download from copernicus and other sources, rather than go through predictwind couldn't you, so they are not encrypted? ...but that might not be so convenient if using iridium.

I don't believe you can get useful ECMWF GRIB files, it's against their license. It was available via predictwin for sometimes either by oversight or the dev team didn't bother until they were steamrolled by the compliance officer.

Re: Opencpn and ECMWF grib issue

Thanks for the clarification. Copernicus seems to have ECMWF but maybe it is just as image files. I haven't looked into it much and you quite obviously know more about it.
