OpenCPN and Garmin radar 18 HD+

Just bought a new radar dome, the Garmin 18 HD+. Wanted to buy a 18 HD (smaller in diameter), but it's no longer available!
The good news is, it does (just) fit on my stern pole. Now mounted and power and network cable routed and connected.
However, I use OpenCPN 5.0 for navigation, and the main reason to buy Garmin was that it is supported by OpenCPN!
I've installed the radar-pi, which does support Garmin HD, but the HD+ is not mentioned! Question, is the HD+ supported by radar-pi?

I have my IP address set to 172.16.0.0 (255.240.0.0), but still there is no communication between radar-pi and Garmin.
I do know I need a seperate switch between pin-5 and the shield, but I would expect the radar in standby mode to be visible.
Help would be appreciated.

jaapbood...

Without the Pin-5 switch, the radar scanner will not power-up. So OpenCPN will not see it, even in stand-by mode.

Thanks

OK, so I do need the switch for pin-5.
Still, the question remains, if the HD+ is supported by the radar-pi?

When you try it, you will be the first to know. And put the results on https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ed-216057.html, which is the current thread for the OpenCPN radar plugin.

I have also raised the question to Garmin: is the network interface of the HD radars the same as the interface of the New HD+ (Ip address etc).

I use a standard laptop (Dell), with OpenCpn. The radar works great, overlays with the map and automatically adjusts scale.
So no Garmin display.

Re: OpenCPN and Garmin radar 18 HD+

I know this is a older forum and these might be rookie questions, but what is the pin-5 switch? I plan on plugging in my 18 HD+ into my TP-Link router, and overlaying onto open CPN through my tablet. Also, has anyone taken The waterproof screw in shielding off of one side of the network cable for ease of install?

I've read it. Just a little foggy on what that pin 5 switch is/does.

Re: OpenCPN and Garmin radar 18 HD+

I have one on order, just making sure it's easy enough to operate. How do you use the switching function without the Garmin interface? Can the switch be used thru radar pi ?

I know I need one, but I can't find any direction outside of that. Is it that easy... plug it in with a short CAT5 cable in the smaller RJ45 Port and it just works thru Radar PI?
