Re: OpenCPN and iKommunicate

what are you using the iKommunicate box for? if you have nmea0183 instruments, OpenCPN will take the data directly without any additional interface boxes needed.

Re: OpenCPN and iKommunicate

I'm hoping to use NMEA 2000 to transmit GPS data to the laptop and to transmit AIS to the chartplotter. After I connect my ST60s to the plotter I'm hoping to transmit that data too.

Re: OpenCPN and iKommunicate

Connect your plotter directly to NMEA2000, it doesn't understand Signal K (yet!)

The iKommunicate will translate NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 to Signal K. Additionally it will output your NMEA0183 inputs as well as the NMEA2000 inputs over Ethernet on port 2000, see the admin page.

There are a number of Signal K ready apps, but OpenCPN is not one of them. I know that there are plans for OpenCPN to support Signal K directly, but for now that is not implemented yet and I don't know when Pavel will be able to add this. Certainly not before 5.0, maybe later. So for now you'll have to use the NMEA0183 conversion done by the iK.

Re: OpenCPN and iKommunicate

Finally installed the iKommunicate box. I can't find the NMEA plugin for 4.4. Can you direct me to the link?
Thanks!

Re: OpenCPN and iKommunicate

There isn't anything like a NMEA plug-in for OCPN.

OCPN does understand NMEA0183 sentences either via (virtual) serial ports or as NMEA0183 streams via UDP or TCP.

The ports OCPN is listening to you define for your specific system under Options|Connections adding the corresponding communication port(s).

The manual does explain all the existing options in detail.

Edit: from the other thread I see that you found the solution - so issue resolved
